A Petterson Springs B&B
Located in a very historic area of Camargo, IL at the well-known Patterson Springs where the spring water fills three concrete pools on the grounds, within three acres of wooded nature land, next to the Embarrass River. The Gothic Revival house with a mansard roof was built in 1880. History abounds on the grounds from Native Americans drinking from the springs, to 1906-16 Chautauqua's, to a $50,000 amusement park from 1927-1942. Our American Cousin and the Assassination of President Lincoln
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln with a production of "Our American Cousin." Audience members will watch the play as seen by the president that evening, then follow along through the tragic moments of the assassination and its aftermath before ending with a journey back to the Goosenest Prairie, home of the president’s beloved step-mother, Sarah Lincoln. Audience members will experience the cultural offerings of 19th-century American theatre and be able imagine the grief and horror of a nation’s response to Lincoln’s murder, and closer to home - the grief of the president’s Coles County kin. Directed by Earl Halbe, volunteers will recreate the play President and Mrs. Lincloln attended that fateful evening when the president's life was tragically taken by the assasin John Wilkes Booth. During these dates the site will feature "Draped in Mourning", an examination of mourning customs of the 19th century.
Antique Farm Show at Lincoln's New Salem
Horse drawn plows, historic farming equipment and agricultural techniques from the 19th century will be featured during the Antique Farm Show. A display of historic farming equipment will be set up in a field by the Blacksmith Shop near the entrance to the village, allowing Antique Farm Show visitors to learn about the latest developments in agriculture from Abraham Lincoln's time to the early 1900s. The Vintage Ag Association of Menard County will have an antique tractor display in the parking lot by the Visitor Center.
