Harvest Frolic Fall Celebration
Don't miss experiencing 19th century life on the farm! Activities will take place at both the Lincoln and Sargent farms and will include children's games, craft and doll making, and hearth cooking. Residents are encouraged to visit the mural, "Civility," and relax in the new surroundings at Progress Square. This mural by artist D.S. Gordon embraces the landscape, history and people of Mattoon. For years after the completion of the rail, many trains a day would meet at the intersection of the tracks at the center of town and determine right of way in polite fashion. This symbolizes the civility of a community with a 150-year history of working together, which the mural captures. One of many mural projects sponsored by the Mattoon Arts Council and the City of Mattoon.

The World's Largest Knitting Needles and Crochet Hook are located inside The Yarn Studio in downtown Casey, Illinois. In order to make it in to the Guinness Book of World Records shop owner, Jeanette Huisinga, had to knit and crochet a 10X10 square with the largest tools. Knitting Needles are 13ft .75in and 25 pounds each. Crochet Hook measures at 6ft. 1.5in and weight is 9lbs.

Torchlight Halloween Hike, Pumpkin Carving and Wiener Roast
Enjoy Lincoln Log Cabin in the dark! We will start at the Visitor Center for a bonfire and wiener roast. Bring out your best carved pumpkin by 4:30 pm and visitors will judge the best carvings and prizes will be awarded. You will also want to hike the paths between our historic farms by torchlight to hear storytellers in the Lincoln Cabin and Sargent House there to entertain guests with seasonal stories. To benefit the educational and interpretation programs of Lincoln Log Cabin, the Foundation will be selling hot dogs and s’mores for you to roast over an open fire.
Arthur Area Freedom Celebration
The event kicks off with a parade followed by a gigantic fireworks display with an exceptional array of shells at Jurgens Park. The 500 ft. long Niagara Falls and the Wall of Fire are some of the crowd favorites. The finale and top crowd favorite is the Rural Patriot on his horse of freedom carrying the American Flag. Activities begin at 4pm and include powered parachute helicopters, WW2 aircraft and skydivers. Food and drink vendors and handicap parking available.

Annual Bluegrass Jam
It’s bluegrass time again at the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, with both fans and performers gathering on Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Musicians from Illinois and Indiana will converge at the site for a day of jamming with informal groups playing along the creek throughout the day. The site’s volunteers will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs and more with proceeds benefit the historical and interpretive programs at the site. Anyone with a love of this unique style of music is welcome to join one of the many the groups playing in the park.
