Welcome to S & S Sandwich Shop of Alton - North Alton’s only independently owned sandwich shop. Our goal is to provide fresh, quality, seasonal food fare at a great value. Every attempt is made to use only local products in our menu items. We currently serve sandwiches, soups and salads prepared by our chefs. Our daily specials change often to exploit the best of each season. Hours of operation: Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Wind Ridge Herb Farm in Caledonia, IL grows over 400 varieties of culinary and medicinal herbs without the use of chemical fertilizers. The herbs produced by Wind Ridge Herb Farm are Certified Naturally Grown. They carry only natural products with no artificial dyes, preservatives, or additives; personally harvesting, inspecting, drying, and packaging the herbs in order to guarantee quality and freshness. The garden is available for meetings, tours, groups and catered lunches. Lunches are provided for groups of 8 or more, and include a garden tour.
At Kinnikinnick Farm, you’ll sleep in tents and feed off the land as you experience life in a more relaxed environment. This is a 30-acre organic market farm that sells organic produce to some of Chicago’s best chefs and restaurants and direct to the public at the Evanston and the Chicago Green City Farmers Markets. In addition to organic vegetables, the farm produces eggs, raises chickens, and is the home for a small herd of sheep, hogs, 6 dogs, a rabbit named Bandit, and Shelly, the family’s Nubian milk goat.

Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery is Illinois’ first farmstead cheese making facility, founded in 2004. Visit this off the beaten path farm and learn about their cheese-making process and their “Animal Welfare Approved” Goat Dairy. Taste their delicious, award winning varieties of goat cheese and sample their amazing goat milk gelato and organic fruits. The farm is open weekdays for drop-in visitors to see the goats, walk the grounds and purchase farm products. During the summer, you can also visit the farm during Wednesday afternoon open houses. In addition to self-guided tours of the farm, you can get gelato by the scoop and purchase products from their farm as well as those from other farms and food artisans. Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery also offers additional food events in the summer with Dinners on the Farm, Third Friday Pop-Ups, and tasting trail events. Slagel Family farm is a 6th generation farm in central Illinois. Re-connect with the land and watch the livestock roaming the pastures in the wide-open skies outside the city. As more and more people have the desire to learn more about their food and where it comes from, a farm tour and dinner would be an excellent way to bring you closer to your food. Tours, which run from spring to fall, are a full afternoon of learning and enjoying food. Each farm tour/dinner will be paired with one or more well-known chefs from Chicago. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions, hold baby piglets, gather fresh eggs, and interact with playful goats and lambs. Following the tour, you will head back to the barn and enjoy a four-course meal prepared using products raised within feet of where we are sitting.

The Ropp Jersey Cheese processing facility in north Normal is owned and operated by a family of 6th generation McLean County dairy farmers. The facility produces cheese curds as well as artisan cheddars, colbys and other cheeses. The Ropp family opened this facility to help promote agriculture as a vital industry to American life. The Forge Brewhouse is using the old traditions of "Rheinheitsgebot," the German Beer Purity Law of 1516 that only allows beer to contain barley, water and hops, to brew signature beers in house. It's pushing beyond those traditions to make a corn beer to honor one of DeKalb County's specialties, IPAs with jalepenos, and many other varieties. The Forge Brewhouse is also creating Brick Oven wood-fired farm to table pizzas.
