Always held the Wednesday after Labor Day. This large DeKalb County Fair held at the fairgrounds on Illinois Route 34, just south of DeKalb, in Sandwich. There will be a carnival, lots of different food vendors, entertainment for all tastes, horse shows to enjoy, truck and tractor pulls, and so much more.
Memorial's Festival of Trees

Cambridge Fest & Auto Show
If you enjoy classic cars and trucks in a historic downtown setting, please join us for the annual Cambridge Main Street Fest & Auto Show in Cambridge. Over 150 cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display. The day offers live entertainment, tours of the Historical Heritage Village, a bake sale, N & G Scale train display, food and craft vendors, along with many other activities. The evening ends with a street dance.
A festival of strawberry-related activities and events. This includes special sales promotions throughout the Arthur area. A strawberry social is held in conjunction at the Otto Center south of town. Strawberries are available for purchase and there will be limited giveaways during the festival. Lots of entertainment and activities, including the bands Battle Creek, Gunny Sack Revue and Deep Water.
Arthur Area Freedom Celebration
The event kicks off with a parade followed by a gigantic fireworks display with an exceptional array of shells at Jurgens Park. The 500 ft. long Niagara Falls and the Wall of Fire are some of the crowd favorites. The finale and top crowd favorite is the Rural Patriot on his horse of freedom carrying the American Flag. Activities begin at 4pm and include powered parachute helicopters, WW2 aircraft and skydivers from the Mid-America Parachute Club. Food and drink vendors and handicap parking available.

Chicago Kids and Kites Festival
Chicago Kids and Kites Festival is a fun-filled day to celebrate the joys of being a kid. From running around outdoors, flying free paper kites and enjoying family-focused programming including face painting, balloon artists and crafts. All crafts activities are while supplies last. Families will be able to purchase kites onsite at the Kite Harbor booth and enjoy professional kite flying demonstrations and learn tips on how to fly a kite. Weather permitting, the festival will also include the Big Kite Candy Drop, a piñata-like kite filled with candies that drop from the sky. Phases of the Moon Music & Art Festival
The inaugural Phases of the Moon Music & Art Festival is set to take place September 11-14, 2014 at the beautiful 3.000 acre Kennekuk County Park. Phases of the Moon is a four-day music, arts and camping event thoughtfully tailored to provide a unique festival experience. It boasts four outdoor stages: two main stages that alternate following each set and two smaller stages. Along with amazing music, attendees will have access to farm-to-table food, craft beer, a farmer's market and a mall of diverse craft vendors featuring an array of original items. Lincoln: History to Hollywood
“Lincoln: History to Hollywood,” an exhibition of sets, costumes and props from the Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-winning film “Lincoln,” has opened at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum complex, located in downtown Springfield, Illinois. Items of note in the exhibit include Lincoln’s office set, a vignette of Mary Lincoln’s bedroom, Lincoln’s gloves, Tad Lincoln’s tin soldiers, and the rocking chair where President Lincoln sat with Tad. Most of the furniture pieces in the exhibit are antiques from the Civil War era, not reproductions. The exhibits are on long-term loan from Spielberg and DreamWorks Studio. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum features more than 40,000 square feet of galleries, theatres and historic displays that takes visitors on a journey from Lincoln’s humble beginnings through his Presidency. The “Lincoln: History to Hollywood” exhibit will be located in Union Station, across the street from the presidential museum.

Hometown Teams - Smithsonian's Traveling Exhibit
Cobden was one of six Illinois sites chosen for Hometown Teams, the Smithsonian’s newest traveling exhibit. The exhibit seeks to use sports to reflect the trials and triumphs of the American experience that have shaped the country’s national character. All levels of sports will be covered, from professional match-ups to pick-up games on the local playground. The exhibition is national in theme and local in scope, with each site interpreting the exhibit to share their local history and sports heritage. One of the many unique stories that will be showcased is the legendary 1964 run to the state basketball championship final by Cobden High School’s famous Appleknockers. The Illinois Humanities Council will bring the exhibit to the Union County Museum w/Union County Historical & Genealogy Society from March 1 - April 14.

Barn quilts of DeWitt County is a project designed to celebrate Clinton and DeWitt County’s rich agricultural history, showcase our rural areas, promote agritourism, the arts, and create a sense of community pride. Throughout the county, vibrant, hand-painted 8’X8’ quilt blocks on ‘wooden canvases’ adorn numerous barns, making a drive through the countryside all the more enjoyable.

Santa will arrive downtown around 4:00 p.m. to officially light the "City of Effingham" Christmas tree on the Courthouse square lawn. There will also be Christmas Carolers serenading you with songs throughout the event, along with other goodies. Step back in time and take a ride on a horse drawn carriage through the downtown area. Owl Prowl Weekend
On Friday and Saturday, Steve Bailey (an ornithologist) will be at the Starved Rock Lodge for Owl Programs and Owl Walks. The Owl Walk Program begins at 6:00pm with the walk to follow finishing back at Lodge around 8:30pm. Price is $10 for adults/$7 children 10 & under. Everyone plan on bringing a flashlight. Reservations are required to attend. On Saturday and Sunday, "Hoo" Haven Wildlife and Education Center will be here with their owls and other friends for presentations at 10:00am, 12:00pm and 2:00pm in the LaSalle room of the Lodge. 20th Annual Historic Cemetery Walk
Follow a guide through one of Galena's oldest cemeteries while costumed re-enactors bring to life some of the most interesting residents in this historic cemetery. Being portrayed this year are various notable Galenians. The last portion of the presentation will be titled “The Widows of Galena” and will highlight the lives of four Galena widows as they discuss the social conventions and attitudes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Sublette Annual Toy and Antique Tractor Show
Vendors from more than ten Midwestern states fill eight buildings with over 400 tables of farm toys and collectibles. Antique tractor show with over 200 tractors lining the streets. Semi-tractors line up to show off their unique paint jobs. Train show with large operating layout, quilt show, and craft show. Pancake breakfast on Sunday. Free shuttle will transport visitors to the various buildings on Sunday only.
