Sunday Tours at the Gold Pyramid House
Come out and take a tour of the Gold Pyramid House on Sunday afternoons at 2pm, through October. The tours are usually 1-2 hours long. Visit King Tuts tomb, tour the inside of the pyramid, and discover exciting artifacts in the gift shop. Please arrive a little early to make sure the tour can start on time. Starved Rock Photography Club
Whether you are just beginning in photography, are an advanced amateur or a professional, you are welcome to the Starved Rock Photography Club. Monthly photography walks at Starved Rock State Park's Lodge with club leader, Jacki Pienta. The Photography Club will meet each month throughout the year for guided walks to planned sites for photography opportunities. Members will informally exchange ideas and tips for quality nature and wildlife photos. They will meet the 4th Saturday of every month at 9am in the back of the Large Parking lot at Starved Rock Lodge. All meetings will consist of a hike to an area of either Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, or Buffalo Rock. Please be prepared to carpool if necessary. $25.00 Annual fee to join which will include a club t-shirt and an annual cook out!
Glidden Homestead Patent Day Celebration!
Joseph F. Glidden was granted a patent on November 24, 1874 for "The Winner," what became one of the most-widely used types of barbed wire in the nation. It all began on the Glidden farm, at the time “a mile west of the City of DeKalb.” Joseph began searching for a better fencing method after his wife, Lucinda, complained about livestock getting into the yard. The holiday festivities in Bishop Hill begin with Julmarknad, or Christmas Market. This event is based on Scandinavian customs dating back to the Middle Ages when farmers and artisans would gather in the village squares to sell their wares. Bishop Hill businesses will be offering unique gifts, handmade wares, antiques, quilts, collectibles, baked goods, delicious foods, and Swedish imports. Scandinavian foods such as herring, lutfisk, and rye bread are also in abundance. Storytelling at Fox Ridge
Many different storytelling events are held under the serenity of the pines at Fox Ridge, our outdoor education & entertainment venue, across from the main doors of the Lodge. Campfire Stories are every Saturday night from July through October. Join us and some of the Illinois Valley’s most engaging storytellers as they share stories, legends, facts and fiction around the fire. Audience participation is welcome so be ready for some fun! Storytime starts at 7:00 pm. Come and sit around the campfire and share your own stories as well as listen to stories told by professionals. Don't worry about the snacks. Popcorn and supplies for s'mores will be sold at the Fox's Den.

44th Annual Christmas Crossroads Craft Show
Christmas Crossroads, presented by the Lockport Woman's Club, has been a crowd pleaser since its inception in 1971. Featured this year will be 185-190 artisans and craftsmen from a 6 state area, selling such items as Christmas wreaths, centerpieces, ornaments, dolls and doll clothes. Also highlighted are hand painted glass and windows, bath salts and soaps, purses, plus quilted and sewn creations, dog/cat items, music boxes, jewelry, pottery, candles, garden art, and photographs. Also included are children's and women's clothing, a variety of Christmas angels and snowmen, herbal vinegar's and oils, dips, floral, furniture, American Girl/Bitty Baby accessories and wooden and country crafts. Local organizations participating include Trinity, Lockport Boy Scout Troop 63, Lockport Lion's Club, St. John Episcopal Church and Hospice. All proceeds from the show are used for collegiate, vocational and summer camp scholarships. Light Up the Holidays Parade and Festival is held on the Friday following Thanksgiving each year. A play based on the book written by Barbara Robinson in 1971. It tells the story of Imogene, Claude, Ralph, Leroy, Ollie, and Gladys, six delinquent children surnamed Herdman. They go to church for the first time after being told that the church offers snacks. Despite protests from other church members, they are given roles in the Sunday school's Christmas play, in which they tell the Christmas story in a non-conventional fashion.
