Francis Park 4th of July Celebration
The festival features annual pancake breakfast, ethnic food fair, arts and craft show, classic car show, steam engine display, antique tractors, a kiddies’ tractor pull, entertainment and tours of Woodland Palace. Stay for the evening and at dusk the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce hosts a fireworks spectacular at Northeast Park in Kewanee. Events begin at 6 am.
A Vintage Baseball Weekend ~ Bishop Hill
Celebrating vintage baseball and Bishop Hill’s baseball roots. Join us for a weekend of 19th century baseball. Three 1850’s baseball teams, the Oregon Ganymedes, the Springfield Long Nine, and the Somonauk Blue Stockings will play old fashion baseball the entire day. Bill Owens, author of The Scorecard, will present a program highlighting how Bishop Hill has ties to the first professional baseball team. The weekend will provide a reason to take the family out to the ball game and more! A special baseball exhibit will be on display the entire weekend at the Steeple Building featuring local Forrest Cady items. Sunday the Henry County Historical Museum will feature a special display and program about the history of baseball.
Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Concert Series

Orion Fall Festival
Enjoy the perfect ending to the summer. Orion celebrates Labor Day weekend with a long standing tradition. Friday evening begins the event with a pie auction, carnival rides, and arts and crafts. The pie auction is legendary and encapsulates the best of small-town, Midwesterner living. The fun continues Saturday with a 5K run, a parade, and lots of food and fun. Events wrap up Sunday with a talent show.
Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival
Celebrate creativity and public art downtown Kewanee, Illinois, July 15 – 17 during the Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival. Professional and amateur artists will compete and create colorful art on a concrete canvas sure to catch your eye. Shaun Hayes, Chicago Chalk Art Champ will be the featured performance artist. Shaun will dazzle you with his 3D illusionary chalk artistry. There is truly something for everyone of any age to enjoy, kid’s area with hand-on art children activities, art vendors and the Kewanee car show with vintage cars lining the streets of downtown Kewanee. Live music will be featured throughout downtown Kewanee while you stroll the car show, shop and dine in Kewanee’s specialty shops and restaurants. Color Run Prairie Run is a 5K run/walk with a twist of color. Start out sparkling clean, be prepared for color cloud bursts of blue, green, pink, purples, and yellow as you run along the course. As you finish you’ll look like a tie-dyed Hippie! A non-competitive run it is open to all ages! Be inspired by color! Pick up some chalk, and be an artist this July downtown Kewanee!

Our heritage is for everyone! A celebration of small town life featuring a fun filled family event that brings us all back in time for a moment to understand our heritage, enjoy the company of others and an opportunity to meet new friends. Activities include 5K/1K mile race, softball and Rolle Bolle Tournaments, children’s games, evening music entertainment. Join in on the meat & soup cook-off featuring, “Hutsepot” a (Belgian Dish). Craft and food vendors featured throughout the park and enjoy the Duck Derby at the village fountain. Activities begin at 8 am.
Woodland Palace at Francis Park
A must-see attraction in Kewanee is the Woodland Palace at Francis Park, the first “green” home in Illinois. This unusual home was built way ahead of its time and is filled with engineering wonders. Learn about the quirky and eccentric man who built and lived in the home. Fred Francis was an artist, poet, inventor, builder, mathematician, engineer, and a naturist. Francis started to build the home in 1890 and worked on it for the next thirty-six years. It features hand-carved molding, a water purification system, and is the first house in the state of Illinois to have air-conditioning without the aid of electricity. View the sophisticated achievements of disappearing windows, doors, and more. Visit a home where everything seems to work in harmony. Woodland Palace is open seven days a week from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. April through October 1.
Bishop Hill Steeple Building
Take a look back in history and visit the Steeple building, built in 1854. Architecturally intriguing it is a three-story stucco Greek Revival structure with a two-story tower and 66 six-over-six windows. It was built to be used as a hotel, but instead was used as a dwelling, school, administration building, and later housed a bank, telephone switchboard and apartments. The museum is home to the Bishop Hill Heritage Asssociation offices. The rooms and exhibit showcase historic artifacts and photos of early Colony days and take visitors back through time to a quaint prairie village. Group tours by appointment, small fee.
Lattice, Landscape and Leaves ~ Bishop Hill Quilt Show
The annual quilt show is like a needle and thread as it joins together family members and friends to create something memorable. This event continues to grow and over 100 quilts and quilted pieces are entered in this judged show at the Colony School. Be sure to visit the Village Smithy and VagnHall Galleri to see additional quilts on display.
Bishop Hill Honor Flight Benefit
A barbeque rib dinner, that’s finger licking good right off the grill starts the festivities. Patriot Guard and Legion Riders ride into town and kick off the festivities with an invocation and presentation of colors. Patriotic music is provided throughout the event as well as unique military exhibits and a military retreat is held promptly at 1800 hours with a 21 gun salute and taps. A live auction of donated items, including, locally made artisan craft to sports memorabilia and more is the highlight of the day, besides the eating that is. Area veterans are provided with a free trip to visit their memorial. All proceeds from the day’s events are donated to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, $60,000 and counting. 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Geneseo’s fastest growing event gets even better. Visit downtown on Saturday as the streets fill up with over 300 vintage cars from all eras, train engines, model trains, airplanes, food and festivities.
Down home service features home baked bread and rolls, home cooked soups and entrees. Specials are served daily. “The Nest” is a specialty; ask about it! Breakfast served all day on Saturday.

Please join us in historic Bishop Hill and spend an automotive fun day in the Village. The park streets are lined with over 100 vintage cars and trucks each year. Bishop Hill’s Volunteer Firemen will be serving a grilled pork chop meal in the Park during the Car Show. Ryan's Round Barn
Tour this centennial barn, one of the largest in the country and one of forty-two left in the State of Illinois.
