A Vintage Baseball Weekend ~ Bishop Hill
Celebrating vintage baseball and Bishop Hill’s baseball roots. Join us for a weekend of 19th century baseball. Three 1850’s baseball teams, the Oregon Ganymedes, the Springfield Long Nine, and the Somonauk Blue Stockings will play old fashion baseball the entire day. Bill Owens, author of The Scorecard, will present a program highlighting how Bishop Hill has ties to the first professional baseball team. The weekend will provide a reason to take the family out to the ball game and more! A special baseball exhibit will be on display the entire weekend at the Steeple Building featuring local Forrest Cady items. Sunday the Henry County Historical Museum will feature a special display and program about the history of baseball.

Bishop Hill Clay and Fiber Fest
Interact with skilled potters and a variety of fiber artists during this two day event. Artists are featured in an indoor/outdoor classroom at Bishop Hill's Prairie Arts Center. Potters of all levels will demonstrate wheel throwing and hand building techniques, the Native American art of horse hair pottery, pit and raku firing processes and more. Learn weaving, spinning, rug hooking and broom making. Make and take activities will be conducted both days. Local musicians will entertain you with their diverse musical style in the village park Saturday afternoon, and an old-fashioned pie and ice cream social will be held there, too. Saturday evening, a soup supper takes place in the Bishop Hill Colony School. For $10, attendees can pick out a hand-thrown bowl, fill it with homemade soup, and take the bowl home afterward.

Bishop Hill Gallery Inn
Stay for a night, a weekend, or longer in the peaceful beauty of historic Bishop Hill. Bishop Hill Honor Flight Benefit
A barbeque rib dinner, that’s finger licking good right off the grill starts the festivities. Patriot Guard and Legion Riders ride into town and kick off the festivities with an invocation and presentation of colors. Patriotic music is provided throughout the event as well as unique military exhibits and a military retreat is held promptly at 1800 hours with a 21 gun salute and taps. A live auction of donated items, including, locally made artisan craft to sports memorabilia and more is the highlight of the day, besides the eating that is. Area veterans are provided with a free trip to visit their memorial. All proceeds from the day’s events are donated to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, $60,000 and counting. 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association Antique Car Show
Please join us in historic Bishop Hill and spend an automotive fun day in the Village. The park streets are lined with over 100 vintage cars and trucks each year. Bishop Hill’s Volunteer Firemen will be serving a grilled pork chop meal in the Park during the Car Show. Proceeds from this show go to the restoration and preservation of the Bishop Hill Colony School completed in 1861. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bishop Hill Prairie Arts Center
Enjoy watching the potter in an open air studio creating artwork on the potter's wheel. The center also features rug, broom, weaving and spinning artisans.
Bishop Hill State Historic Site
Four historically significant buildings are owned by the State of Illinois and are maintained as part of the Bishop Hill State Historic Site. These architectural treasures are the two-story Colony Church (1850), the three-story Colony Hotel (1852-ca. 1860), the Boys Dormitory (ca. 1850), and the Colony Barn (mid-1850s) that has been relocated behind the Hotel. In addition, the central village park contains a reconstructed gazebo and war monuments. On the south edge of the village, stands a new brick Museum to house a comprehensive collection of paintings by colonist and self-taught artist, Olof Krans (1838-1916). Bishop Hill Steeple Building
Take a look back in history and visit the Steeple building, built in 1854. Architecturally intriguing it is a three-story stucco Greek Revival structure with a two-story tower and 66 six-over-six windows. It was built to be used as a hotel, but instead was used as a dwelling, school, administration building, and later housed a bank, telephone switchboard and apartments. The museum is home to the Bishop Hill Heritage Asssociation offices. The rooms and exhibit showcase historic artifacts and photos of early Colony days and take visitors back through time to a quaint prairie village. Group tours by appointment, small fee.

Carl Sandburg Days Festival
An annual festival celebrating the life and legacy of Galesburg native, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Lincoln biographer--Carl Sandburg. Includes three days of literary, history, sporting, and children's events held at Carl Sandburg College.
Carl Sandburg State Historic Site
Author-poet Carl Sandburg was born in the the three-room cottage at 331 E. Third Street in Galesburg on January 6, 1878. The modest house relfects the typcial living conditions of a late-nineteenth-century working-class family and features many furnishings that once belonged to the Sandburg family. Behind the home stands a small wooded park which features the Quotation Walk, a celebration of the Prairie Poet's work and words. It is in this tranquil setting that the ashes of Carl Sandburg and his wife Lilian were liad to rest beneath Remberance Rock.
