20th Annual General Grierson Days Civil War Reenactment
Largest mounted Civil War re-enactment in the Midwest. Step back in time and experience the life of a Civil War soldier. Visit the Confederate and Union camps. Watch the soldiers drill and prepare for battle, prepare meals and practice medicine. Veterans will be remembered from WWI and WWII. Re-enactors will have their tents set up and will be giving rides in WWII trucks. 1850’s vintage baseball game, featuring teams from Chicago, St. Louis and several more. Kid’s corner keeps the children entertained while learning about the past. Parades, full period dress grand ball, exhibits, food and of course major battle reenactments.

Clayville Historic Site
The centerpiece of Clayville is the Broadwell Inn, the oldest brick building in Sangamon County, built in 1824 by the Broadwell family as a stage coach stop between Springfield and Beardstown. The Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is surrounded by numerous other historic buildings from Central Illinois moved to Clayville in the 1960s to recreate an early frontier pioneer village. Come see a unique piece of Illinois history.

As you drive along the Hillview Scenic Bluff Road you experience a rare opportunity to visualize the pristine natural beauty of the early nineteenth century, agricultural farming of the river delta, the architectural significance of the early English settlers in their hi-style limestone homesteads, as well as the original beaut of the native prairie grasses that roll gently up into the limestone palisades along the river valley. This lower Illinois River Valley region is known by many archeologists to be the "Nile of the North America." Check out the online map of this trail in Greene County where you can click to learn of the early people and places of Green County's Lower Illinois Valley.
