Light Up the Holidays Parade and Festival is held on the Friday following Thanksgiving each year. Activities begin at 10:00am and include the Renaissance Center Fun Fair, activities in the Joliet Historical Museum, Joliet Public Library, Gji's Sweet Shoppe, Jitters Coffeehouse, Chicken-N-Spice, The Red Goose Bakery and more. But his expedition down the Great River was only part of the Marquette legacy, which began on the southern shore of Lake Superior and ended on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Searching for Marquette follows his journey through today's cities and towns in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Arkansas to uncover French relics, Native-American royalty, and hearty settlers in a drama of faith, the fur trade and the future of America's heartland. 44th Annual Christmas Crossroads Craft Show
Christmas Crossroads, presented by the Lockport Woman's Club, has been a crowd pleaser since its inception in 1971. Featured this year will be 185-190 artisans and craftsmen from a 6 state area, selling such items as Christmas wreaths, centerpieces, ornaments, dolls and doll clothes. Also highlighted are hand painted glass and windows, bath salts and soaps, purses, plus quilted and sewn creations, dog/cat items, music boxes, jewelry, pottery, candles, garden art, and photographs. Also included are children's and women's clothing, a variety of Christmas angels and snowmen, herbal vinegar's and oils, dips, floral, furniture, American Girl/Bitty Baby accessories and wooden and country crafts. Local organizations participating include Trinity, Lockport Boy Scout Troop 63, Lockport Lion's Club, St. John Episcopal Church and Hospice. All proceeds from the show are used for collegiate, vocational and summer camp scholarships. In conjunction with the City of Lockport's summer art series The Visionaries, The Gaylord Building is hosting "A Steampunk Expo." The event will feature makers and retailers of "steampunk" art and merchandise. The Expo will be held in the historic site Friday through Sunday, July 25-27, 2014 which is also The Visionaries' Gala Weekend. Gala Weekend activities include food and entertainment in The Gaylord Building and throughout Lockport's historic downtown. Public admission to the Expo is free. Drum Corps "Tour of Champions"
Northern Illinois University and Huskie Stadium will once again play host to the Drum Corps "Tour of Champions”. This show will feature 7 of the World's Top 12 Drum & Bugle Corps. This year's show will welcome many Midwest Drum Corps Alumni, including: Phantom Regiment, The Cavaliers, Guardsmen, Knights, Royal Airs, Vanguards, Madison Scouts & more. Last year this show attract over 6,000 visitors to the DeKalb area from over 24 states. According to Jeff Dobie of Fatty's Pub, " ... the Drum Corps weekend was the busiest days of summer". Drum corp shows has been in DeKalb for over 30 years and was started by local business owner Michael Embrey (former Band Director at NIU). This year's show will open with the Northern Illinois University Marching Band performing the Star Spangled Banner. Each Drum corps in attendance will have a souvenir booth for spectators to purchase tee-shirts and recordings. NIU and Fatty's Pub will have a special Food Tent with theme Drum Corps meals prior to the show. Prior to the show Drum Corps Alumni and FANS are invited to tailgate at Fatty's in DeKalb. Held at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park & Theatre - all levels of interest welcome! For children age 5-18, our drama camp meets Monday-Thursday on the indoor theatre stage to prepare their full-fledge musical finale. Lemont Quarrymen Vintage Baseball team will be playing home games this year at Covington Knolls Park at 127th and Covington Drive. Christmas at the Farm
The Lyon farm and village is operated by the Kendall County Historical Society. For two Sundays in December, kids get to experience what an old time Christmas was like. Tables are set up with eight different holiday crafts. This exciting day includes a train display around the Christmas tree and naturally, they get to meet, and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. A story teller will read some holiday classics and they can enjoy roasted chestnuts. Chili and hot dogs are available for sale. Dec. 7 & 14 1-4 pm.
