Freedom Fest Car Show
Wiley Parks’ beautiful trees provide shade to view a wide variety of cars, trucks and motorcycles on display. Bring your lawn chair, sit back and enjoy the 50’s and 60’s music, raffles, and food tent. The Silver Streak driven by the Gypsy Coeds will be on display during the car show. Stay for the presentation below. Gypsy Coeds Presentation: Long before Thelma & Louise rode off in their ’66 Thunderbird convertible, there were the Gypsy Coeds. In the mid 1930s and early 40s, this group of fiercely independent young ladies would pack themselves and a few belongings into Darlene Dorgan’s silver 1926 Model T Touring Car (dubbed the Silver Streak) and set off during the summers in search of adventure. “Gypsy Coeds Ride the Silver Streak” will be shared right after the Galva Freedom Fest Car Show, August 13 at the Galva United Methodist Church. John Butte will tell the stories of how the girls’ traveled through 44 states, Mexico and Canada at a top speed of about 45 miles an hour. Refreshments will be provided by PEO Chapter BR.

Old Settlers Swedish Stomp and Skamperoo
Begins at 9 am, Skamperoo starts at 10 am. Over 150 runners each year of all ages enjoy this tradition of family fun running through historic Bishop hill, during the annual 5K run/walk. Runners vie for the coveted hand carved wooden boot trophy, symbolic of the Swedish Stomp. Open to all ages 7 to 107.
Woodland Palace at Francis Park
A must-see attraction in Kewanee is the Woodland Palace at Francis Park, the first “green” home in Illinois. This unusual home was built way ahead of its time and is filled with engineering wonders. Learn about the quirky and eccentric man who built and lived in the home. Fred Francis was an artist, poet, inventor, builder, mathematician, engineer, and a naturist. Francis started to build the home in 1890 and worked on it for the next thirty-six years. It features hand-carved molding, a water purification system, and is the first house in the state of Illinois to have air-conditioning without the aid of electricity. View the sophisticated achievements of disappearing windows, doors, and more. Visit a home where everything seems to work in harmony. Woodland Palace is open seven days a week from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. April through October 1.
Lattice, Landscape and Leaves ~ Bishop Hill Quilt Show
The annual quilt show is like a needle and thread as it joins together family members and friends to create something memorable. This event continues to grow and over 100 quilts and quilted pieces are entered in this judged show at the Colony School. Be sure to visit the Village Smithy and VagnHall Galleri to see additional quilts on display.
Bishop Hill Steeple Building
Take a look back in history and visit the Steeple building, built in 1854. Architecturally intriguing it is a three-story stucco Greek Revival structure with a two-story tower and 66 six-over-six windows. It was built to be used as a hotel, but instead was used as a dwelling, school, administration building, and later housed a bank, telephone switchboard and apartments. The museum is home to the Bishop Hill Heritage Association offices. The rooms and exhibit showcase historic artifacts and photos of early Colony days and take visitors back through time to a quaint prairie village. Group tours by appointment, small fee. Open Daily 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 4 p.m.

Ryan's Round Barn
Tour this centennial barn, one of the largest in the country and one of forty-two left in the State of Illinois. It stands 80 feet high and 85 feet in diameter and features a 16-foot diameter floor to ceiling silo. A farm implement museum in on the main floor. Tours are provided by Friends of Johnson’s Park Foundation and groups of ten or more asked to call ahead. Open the first, third, and fifth Saturday beginning May through October. Hours: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Mautino State Fish and Wildlife Area
Encompasses 871 acres of mostly unreclaimed strip-mining land. The area is dotted with some 15 stocked lakes for fishing. Be aware that shore access is limited and that shorelines tend to drop off suddenly into deep water.
Hennepin Feeder Canal Trail
The Hennepin Feeder Canal Trail located just south of Rock Falls is where you will pick up this medium to difficult trail. Cyclists, hikers and anglers come to enjoy the stocked waters, the peaceful wooded banks and the abundance of bird life. As the trail heads south toward the rural countryside the path frees itself from the throngs of people allowing you to enjoy the serene environment all to yourself.
Hennepin Canal Bike Paths
The Hennepin Canal Parkway follows an old towpath that was actually never used, although the locks and aqueducts are in still in place. It was originally built to link the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The 105-mile path is level and easy; however, water is scarce along the way (found only at locks 21, 22 and the Visitor Center), so be sure to bring plenty, especially during hot days. The landscape varies from forest to grasslands to marsh to farmland, and the trail is particularly pleasing during fall, when the leaves are changing colors. The Hennepin Canal Parkway has become a cyclist's paradise and an exceptional spot for fishing, birding, horseback riding and a wealth of outdoor recreation.

Princeville Heritage Museum
The Princeville Heritage Museum opened to the public in 1999. The museum is a part of the Historical Association of Princeville (incorporated in 1987). The 15,000 square foot handicap accessible facility features antique agriculture equipment, steam powered tractors and threshers, area artifacts, a genealogy research area, and much more. In 2004 the Akron Townhouse School was moved to the museum grounds. The townhouse school allows children and adults alike to take a step back in time and participate in a day in the life of a student in the early 1900’s. With seating for 35, the conference facilities are equipped with state of the art audio visual equipment and wireless internet connection. The facility also includes a full kitchen.

Roger Reiman, the original proprietor, is a 1998 inductee into the American Motorcycle Association’s Hall of Fame and a three-time winner of the Daytona 200. A top competitor in the AMA’s Grand National Circuit during the 1960s, Reiman cut back on his racing schedule to manage the family Harley Davidson dealership in Kewanee during the 1970s. It was during this time that he became famous as motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel’s head mechanic. Since Reiman’s death in a racing accident in 1997, the Packee family has owned and operated the dealership. One of the top Harley Davidson dealerships in the Midwest, Reiman’s can meet every motorcycle enthusiast’s needs and desires. Johnson Sauk Trail State Park

Bishop Hill Clay and Fiber Fest
Interact with skilled potters and a variety of fiber artists during this two day event. Artists are featured in an indoor/outdoor classroom at Bishop Hill's Prairie Arts Center. Potters of all levels will demonstrate wheel throwing and hand building techniques, the Native American art of horse hair pottery, pit and raku firing processes and more. Learn weaving, spinning, rug hooking and broom making. Make and take activities will be conducted both days. Local musicians will entertain you with their diverse musical style in the village park Saturday afternoon, and an old-fashioned pie and ice cream social will be held there, too. Saturday evening, a soup supper takes place in the Bishop Hill Colony School. For $10, attendees can pick out a hand-thrown bowl, fill it with homemade soup, and take the bowl home afterward.
Wheels O'Time Museum
Located 8 miles north of downtown Peoria on Route 40. Wheels O'Time features vintage and classic autos, Early Ford V8 Club rotating monthly, gas engines, fire engines, airplanes, tractors, musical instruments, juke boxes, toys, dolls, animated miniature circus, and many “hands-on” displays. Open May-October, Wednesday-Sunday, Noon-5 p.m. with a new Ford exhibit on display every month.
Marshall State Fish and Wildlife Area
Bottomlands and bluffs support a variety of animals, plants, and outdoor pursuits including picnicking, camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. Migrating waterfowl, great blue herons, and bald eagles provide birders exceptional viewing opportunities.
Henry County Historical Museum
This museum's detailed exhibits include a one-room schoolhouse, doctor's and dentist's offices, the war room, restored ag implements, machinery, an authentic windmill and a hog house.
Francis Park, home to "Woodland Palace" is a great place to tour and enjoy the outdoors. Perfect for your special occasion. 40 acres of woodlands to explore while camping at one of 60 RV sites with electricity or in the spacious tent area. The Timber Campground
Large mature trees covering 50 acres surrounds a 5 acre lake for you to unwind in nature's glory. Activities for all ages - swim, fish, play horseshoes, volleyball or swing at the playground. 30 and 50 amp sites all with water and electric hookup. Pull through and tent sites are available.
Bishop Hill Bakery & Eatery
This is a family owned and operated business. Step up to the counter and watch fresh bread and cookies being baked right before your eyes. Be tempted with many baked goods or stay for lunch with homemade soup, casseroles, or a sandwich from the daily lunch menu. The bakery is located across from the Colony Store and Steeple building.
Carriage Classics, Ltd.
This horse-drawn carriage service is available for scenic tours, weddings and other occasions. Equipped for all seasons. Evening rides in downtown Peoria Fridays and Saturdays during April through mid-October. Thursday through Saturday rides during June through August. Pick-up points at Hotel Pere Marquette and The Landing. $20 for two adults and $5 for each additional person. Children under 10 ride free. Carriage rides available 7 p.m. through midnight. May be hired any time of the year for service in the Peoria and surrounding area. We also have a horse-drawn trolley available for special groups outings. Call for details!!!
Christmas Market "Julmarknad"
The holiday festivities in Bishop Hill begin with Julmarknad, or Christmas Market. This event is based on Scandinavian customs dating back to the Middle Ages when farmers and artisans would gather in the village squares to sell their wares. Bishop Hill businesses will be offering unique gifts, handmade wares, antiques, quilts, collectibles, baked goods, delicious foods, and Swedish imports. Businesses will be open from 10-5pm. Scandinavian foods such as herring, lutfisk, and rye bread are also in abundance. Select from a large array of delicious holiday cookies, homemade by community bakers on Friday and Saturday.
