The Nature Institute is a non-profit land conservation and environmental education organization based in Godfrey, IL. Since its founding in 1980, The Nature Institute's board and staff have worked to foster an awareness and appreciation of the natural world through preservation, restoration, and education. The Nature Institute also owns and manages over 450 acres of protected land, such as the Olin Nature Preserve, the Mississippi Sanctuary, the Kemp and Cora Hutchinson Bird Sanctuary, and the Heartland Prairie Project at Gordon Moore Park. These natural areas provide unique places for the public to experience the diversity of the Riverbend area with its hardwood forests, prairies and wetlands. The Edward F.Vassallo Land and Water Reserve is a privately owned reserve located adjacent to White Pines State Forest. It was designated in 2014 as a state Land & Water Reserve by the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and includes 130 acres of native wildflowers, plants, grasses, creek bottom, habitat for native wildlife, birds and insects and forest areas. Spring Creek, a tributary of Pine Creek, flows through the reserve. Today and forever, this land will remain in its natural condition as part of the Illinois Nature Preserve System and is a gift to present and future generations as a place where native plants and animals can thrive under wise stewardship and protection from harm. The Chicago Bandits are a women's professional softball team based in Rosemont, Illinois. Since the 2005 season, they have played as a member of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). The Bandits won the 2008 NPF championship, defeating the Washington Glory in the final game of the championship series. The team won their second NPF championship following the 2011 season when they won the championship series two games to none over the USSSA Pride. Following the 2015 season the team won its third NPF championship defeating the USSSA Pride two games to none. They play their home games at Rosemont Stadium in Rosemont, Illinois.

We have a rainbow variety of heirloom vegetables and potted herbs available for purchase when in season. If you are interested in holding a wedding or reunion or other event here, contact us for fees and dates. We also host senior photos, maternity photos, homecoming and prom photos, etc. for a small fee. The money earned from entrance fees and herbs/vegetable sales is directly invested into growing Mandala Gardens.

The DeKalb County Quilter's Guild invites you to our biennial quilt show, October 1-2, 2016. Enjoy this year's expanding our offerings to other textile and fiber arts, such as weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, wearable art and more. The featured artist will be Lorraine Torrence, who makes wearable art and quilts, and will be presenting three lectures, "Design Principles for Quilters," "Finding Your Voice," and "Creative Clothing for Everybody." In addition to 300+ quilts on display, there will be exhibits in other disciplines and special exhibits including the Hoffman Challenge and a trunk show by SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates.) There will be demonstrations, workshops, lectures, and a vendors mall with new and longtime favorites. Food will also be available to purchase.
In its 39th year, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon welcomes thousands of runners from more than 100 countries and all 50 states, including a world-class elite field, top regional and masters runners, race veterans, debut marathoners and charity runners. The race’s iconic course takes runners through 29 vibrant neighborhoods on an architectural and cultural tour of Chicago. In 2015, an estimated 1.7 million spectators lined the streets, cheering on 37,459 runners from the start line to the final stretch down Columbus Drive. As a result of the race’s national and international draw, the Chicago Marathon assists in raising millions of dollars for a variety of charitable causes while generating $254 million in annual economic impact to its host city. The 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, will start and finish in Grant Park beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 9.

Quilts are displayed in several historic churches in the Villages of Kampsville, Hardin and Brussels. Beautiful quilts that belong to the residents of Calhoun County are on display in the Churches along with quilt exhibits and activities in Church Halls. Calhoun County communities join together to share the beauty and history of quilts that have been in local families as far back as the 1800s. There are over one hundred (100) quilts on display in the various locations. A brief history of each quilt will be provided so visitors can appreciate the craftsmanship and stories that are uniquely associated with them.
