October 25, 1959 then Senator John F. Kennedy gave a speech here at the Egyptian Theatre in front of a packed house. A recording of this very speech has been found and will be played for the first time on the anniversary of his speech 57 years ago. Following the playing of his speech historian, Jim Gibbons, will present the life of our 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Jim Gibbons, a Marengo, IL resident and historian, has made a name for himself teaching the importance of history. Using his passion for and strong knowledge of history, Jim offers riveting presentations on the historical events and figures.

Clayton's Tap has been family owned and operated for over 40 years. In 1973, W. Clayton Darlington purchased Farmers Paradise from Hank Briscoe. The tavern was truly a "Farmers Paradise". Shortly after Hank Briscoe passed away, it was renamed Clayton's Tap. In 2004, ownership transferred within the family, and the tavern was closed for a short time and completely remodeled. A back room with adjacent beer garden was built to host live entertainment and private parties, and the original Brunswick bar which won the World's Fair in 1933 was refurbished and is still in use today. DakhaBrakha is a quartet from Kiev, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian "ethno chaos" band DakhaBrakha creates a world of unexpected new music. DakhaBrakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art "DAKH" by the avant-garde theatre director - Vladyslav Troitskyi - and given the name that means "give/take" in the old Ukrainian language. Theatre work has left its mark on the band performances - their shows are always staged with a strong visual element.

The Sycamore History Museum is proud to announce that the theme of the 2016 Pumpkin Fest Historic Homes Tour is “Restoration!” We have all followed some wonderful public restorations and renovations recently in Sycamore: the Ward Hotel, the Fargo Hotel, the C&NW Depot, and the Townsend Carriage House, now Resource Bank. We want to celebrate some of the lovely homes of historic Sycamore that have been lovingly restored by dedicated owners.
For two nights only, audiences will relive some of their favorite musicals from the past seven decades: “Guys & Dolls,” “Les Miserables,” “The Music Man,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and many, many more. The show will consist of solos, duets, and small group numbers from the musicals SCP has performed over the past 70 years! There will be two showings on November 4th and on November 5th at 7:30pm.
The Stage Coach Players Theatre presents "The Game's Afoot". The show takes place in December 1936 and surrounds real-life Broadway star William Gillette, known for his iconic leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes. Gillette has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a Christmas holiday weekend. Festivities don’t go as planned. This play is directed and adapted by Amanda Smothers. Showing on the following dates and times: Oct. 20-22, 28-29 @ 7:30pm; Oct. 23, 30 @ 2:00pm.
On Thursday, November 17, the public is invited to the Ellwood House Museum for the new lecture series titled “Local Lore.” Local Lore is an adult lecture series which will cover a wide variety of topics relating to DeKalb history. Each month, a different guest speaker will present these fascinating programs. All lectures take place at the Ellwood House Museum Visitor Center, 509 North First Street in DeKalb. From Christmas trees to Santa Claus, Christmas as we know it is a result of the Victorian era. Just in time for the opening of the decorated Ellwood Mansion, this lecture will explore how our Christmas traditions became popular.
