Ride Like An Egyptian
Join us for a fun and enjoyable bike ride through DeKalb and Kane Counties and support the historic Egyptian Theatre on Satruday, August 22nd. Since the ride starts and ends at the Egyptian Theatre, you will have the opportunity to explore this historic landmark. This bike ride offers four mix-n-match 25-mile loops. All participants will be provided with route maps and all routes will be marked with signs. There will be great SAG support on all loops and a well-stocked central rest stop. Bike at your own speed, this is not a race. All ages are welcome, however, those under the age of 16 must ride with a participating parent or guardian. There will be an end-of-ride meal provided for registered riders. Meal will feature soup, sandwiches, and refreshments.
10th Annual "Let's Dance" Big Band Weekend

17th Annual Biking with Beanzie
Biking with Beanzie is a recreational ride presented by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and sponsored by Kishwaukee Community Hospital.The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with estimated ride options of 23, 43, 63, 80, or 101 miles. All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor. This year also includes 3-mile, 5-mile, & 8-mile community bicycle pathway route options.

The Dirt on Dirt: Why do Madagascar's Lemurs Eat Soil?
Enjoy an afternoon learning about lemurs while the kids participate in free monkey-themed crafts! Brandon Semel, a MA in Anthropology candidate, will be discussing Madacascar's lemurs! "Madagascar is a land full of unique plants and animals, including leaping lemurs, colorful chameleons, and bulging baobab trees. This lecture presentation will last approximately 1 hour (from 12-1pm). Free monkey crafts will be available for children during the presentation. The presentation is free with museum admission.

Campers will learn the ups and downs of how their favorite amusement park attractions really work, design their own thrill rides, learn how engineers optimize traffic flow and even get to concoct their own carnival confections. One entire day will also be spent doing experiments at Six Flags—Great America. Campers get to experience dorm life and exciting evening science activities throughout the week. There is not a residency requirement, all students that fit the camp age specifications are welcome to register. Have a little fun while you learn this summer. Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert. The concerts will take place at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.

DeKalb County Farm Stroll
The Illinois Extension office for Boon, DeKalb and Ogle Counties is hosting a DeKalb County Farm Stroll on Sunday, July 19th from 11 am - 5 pm. Wondering where to find local food & farm products in DeKalb County? Satisfy your local food cravings and curiosities on the DeKalb County Farm Stroll! A free self-guided tour of more than a dozen diversified family farms. Some of the farms participating are: Jonamac Orchard, Waterman Winery & Vineyards, Heatherhope Farm, You Pick Berries and Honey Hill Orchard. Each location will have different events going on, but the stroll will allow participants to meet local farmers, get farm tours and demonstrations, sampling of fresh local products, and more. There is no starting location for the stroll, guests are welcome to visit as many or as few as they would like and in whatever order they would like. Enjoy learning about the night sky with astronomers from NIU's Observatory who will have telescopes for viewing planets and constellations. The experts on hand will be available to answer your questions, and education activities will be provided throughout the night by NIU STEM Outreach and Dekalb Park District Staff.

The Forge Brewhouse
The Forge Brewhouse is using the old traditions of "Rheinheitsgebot," the German Beer Purity Law of 1516 that only allows beer to contain barley, water and hops, to brew signature beers in house. It's pushing beyond those traditions to make a corn beer to honor one of DeKalb County's specialties, IPAs with jalepenos, and many other varieties. The Forge Brewhouse is also creating Brick Oven wood-fired farm to table pizzas.
