Festival 2015: The Power of Music - Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra
The Power of Music is a dynamic, weekend-long exploration of the powers derived from music. The festival opens with the screening of a powerful new film documenting the use of Beethoven's 9th Symphony to affect change in different cultural and social contexts. Day two starts with an afternoon lecture by renowned musicologist, Jason Geary, on the power of music to persuade and its uses in mass media, and finishes with an evening recital by acclaimed Venezuelan pianist, Gabriela Martinez. The festival concludes on day three with a showcase of the power of music to enrich and enhance the lives of young area musicians, with a showcase of local talent. Festival passes are $50, and include admission to all events.

9th Annual Red Carpet Corridor - Joliet Area Historical Museum
The 9th Annual Red Carpet Corridor including activities at the Joliet Area Historical Museum. It is all about family fun on the most famous road in America - Route 66. This year’s event will be Saturday, May 2, from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, May 3, from 8 AM to 3 PM. Sponsored by the twelve communities which make up the 90-mile linear museum from Joliet to Towanda, the annual festival invites everyone to experience the good life in the slow lane. Each community will produce its own events. From full-blown festivals to antique and craft sales, art sales, car and motorcycle shows, live entertainments, and plenty of yard, garage, and sidewalk sales along the way, everyone is sure to discover something unique. Food, snacks and treats will be in abundance, and there are plenty of historic sites, outstanding free museums and unique mom & pop businesses to help create a nostalgic journey for all to enjoy. Visitors can simply enjoy the drive, stop and have their picture taken with Elvis, or do a little shopping in any of the great stores along the Mother Road.

The Riverside Arts Weekend (RAW) features a juried arts fair, theater, music, architecture and other arts-related events. This is a vibrant cultural weekend that brings thousands of visitors and residents together to mingle and walk the streets of historic downtown Riverside. The weekend will be located inside Guthrie Park in Riverside, IL.

Canal Alliance Congress
August 24, 2014 marked 30 years since the Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor had been signed into existence by President Ronald Reagan. The theme for our 3rd Annual Canal Alliance Congress during this anniversary year is “Looking Back, Looking Forward.” We will be looking back at the founding of the national heritage corridor and past projects and how they are doing today. Then we will look forward at projects in the works and only dreamed of, to envision what the Canal Corridor will be like in the future. There are a variety of sections, including panel discussions, pecha kucha presentations (pecha kucha is a presentation with 20 seconds per slide for 20 slides), and networking breaks, as well as an hour lunch. Reservations required.

Wild Bill! An Evening with James Butler Hickok
Walt Willey stars in Wild Bill! An Evening with James Butler Hickok. Walt has performed his one man show all over the country. He is bringing his Wild Bill in-school program to the Joliet Township High School and will work with the drama department students. At the end of his in-school program, there will be 2 live performances of Walt’s show, Wild Bill! An Evening with James Butler Hickok, complete with student participation running the sound and lighting for the performances. A portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold will go back to the school’s drama department and theatre program. Performances are Saturday, February 27 at 7:30PM and Sunday, March 1 at 2PM. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
Frozen Princess Tea Party
The Lockport Township Park District is offering Frozen Princess Tea Party for all ages at Prairie Bluff Golf Course, 19433 Renwick Rd., Crest Hill on Sat., Feb. 28th from 11am-1:30pm. Wear your fanciest outfit or princess gown to sip tea and eat delicious snacks with Elsa and Anna. Sing and dance to the music from the Frozen movie. Make a craft and enjoy other royal activities.
