Holidays at the Home and Studio
Enjoy the Holidays at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park! Youth volunteers will be on hand to tell stories of how the Wright family celebrated the holidays. You won't want to miss the highlight of the tour, the 12-foot tree in the children's playroom, all decked out in period ornaments. After visiting the Home, visitors are welcome to step into Frank Lloyd Wright's studio to experience the Froebel blocks, the geometric shapes that Wright credited with influencing the development of his Prairie style of architecture. In addition, hot chocolate will be available in the courtyard! Dates are December 13th and December 20th with tours running continuously from 9-11am.

Maple Festival at Touch of Nature, a free educational family-fun event to learn the history and see the process of making maple syrup from the woods to the kitchen. It includes maple syrup demonstrations, tree identification hikes and a home-cooked pancake breakfast which includes maple syrup harvested a Touch of Nature. The event also features blacksmith, hide tanning, silk embroidery, furniture making and other demonstrations, as well as local artisans and vendors. Admission to the event is free. The Pancake breakfast is $10.
Bald Eagle Watch Weekend
"Eagle Watch Weekend" includes activites both at the Starved Rock Lodge and the Illinois Waterway Visitors Center. You don’t have to travel north to see these majestic birds of prey. Thousands of eagles migrate south from Canada during the winter and Illinois is one of the homes of the greatest population of wintering bald eagles. For a birds eye view, hike to the top of the Rock.
Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo

Breakfast with Santa

Bald Eagle Tours at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge
Crab Orchard is home to six nesting pairs of resident bald eagles and their offspring. A few nesting sites are visible from public roads throughout the Refuge and eagles are spotted daily. Guided tours visit eagle nests and areas of the Refuge where eagles may be spotted. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth under the age of 12, and reservations are required.

Have you ever had a really rotten day? Alexander has.. Laugh and sing along with this hilarious musical adaptation of Judith Viorst's classic children's book, presented by Two Beans Productions, and discover along with Alexander that sometimes, every one of us has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. The show is about an hour long and is great for children from kindergarten to third grade. It covers arts, literature-based, music, relationships and family which is a great learning experience for children. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and this show will start at 10 a.m.

The Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday tradition woven with beautiful choreography, music and a special story. Set to the lovely score by Tchaikovsky, this two act ballet begins with a young girl named Clara who receives a special gift from Herr Drosselmeyer at a Christmas Party. The nutcracker gift quickly becomes Clara’s favorite and soon transforms into a prince who invites her to join him on a special journey. The story continues through the snow, into the Land of Sweets where dancers from many lands entertain them. Is it all a dream? This will be the 15th time that the Kaiser Dance Theatre has brought the lovable ballet to local audiences. The first performance took place in 1985 and since then has become one of Quincy’s very own holiday traditions.

ArtsPower's presentation of My Heart in a Suitcase is a dramatic adaptation of Anne Lehmann Fox's courages autobiographical account. Forced to leave her family in order to escape 1938 Nazi-controlled Germany, Anne struggles to bring meaning to a world filled with violence and hatred, and must learn to rely on her own courage and the generosity of others to survive. My Heart in a Suitcase is a gripping, poignant and dramatic tribute to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit to triumph over unimaginable hardship. This show is great for children in 4th to 8th grade. It not only teaches them about a world wide lesson, but also shows them how to treat one another. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the show will start at 10 a.m.

THE WINTER WONDERETTES takes audiences to Harper’s Hardware for their 1968 holiday party, hosted by the female singing group The Wonderettes. When Santa turns up missing, the ladies must use their talent and creative ingenuity, plus some great holiday tunes such as “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “ Run Rudolph Run,” “Winter Wonderland” and 20 other seasonal favorites, to save the festivities. The Church Basement Ladies in The Last Potluck Supper
The Last Potluck Supper is the fifth and last installment in the popular comedy series The Church Basement Ladies, based on the books by Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson. The ladies meet in the kitchen to prepare for the church's Centennial Celebration and, through a series of flashbacks, share memories of the last 100 years. Though times are tough in the community, through the grace, hilarity and antics of their stories, the ladies manage to get through it all with a laugh!! Please note that there will be two different times the show will be performed.
