Starved Rock Country Marathon
Inaugural marathon and half marathon in central Illinois. Be one of the first people to run through and around Starved Rock Country. Runners will experience a course that is not a flat fast course as other courses advertise, the course has characteristics that will inspire you with scenic beauty and experience the highs and lows of the hills created by the Illinois River thousands of years ago. Arthur Amish Country Christmas Kickoff
The Christmas lighted parade steps off at 5:30pm and will showcase Santa & Mrs. Claus through downtown Arthur. Immediately following the parade, Santa will visit with children and parents in Knights Court downtown to start collecting those early Christmas requests. Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be served during his visit. Throughout the day, businesses in the downtown area as well as the countryside will feature early Christmas bargains and host Open Houses.

Shelby County 4H & Jr. Fair
One of only a few fairs that still highlight their 4H and Juniors. The Food Shack serves plenty of great food each day of the fair manned by the various 4H Clubs in Shelby County. The fair wraps up with the popular livestock auction and team penning.

Cowden Pioneer Days
This family friendly festival is set in the city park with plenty of carnival rides, craft vendors, flea market, foods, etc. There is also an IPRA sanctioned rodeo that takes place Friday and Saturday. A demolition derby takes place on Sunday. You can also enjoy the Horseshoe tournament or the arm wrestling. There will also be a large parade Saturday morning. Guardian Angel Bassett Bash & Waddle
Join in for two days of fun, friends and fundraising to help our favorite four-legged friends. This event, held at the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue Park in Dwight, will raise money for the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue to help Basset Hounds in need of a home. The 'Largest Basset gathering in the World' includes a picnic, 'bassetball' and waddle. A weekend filled with Bassett’s, games, contests, entertainment & the huge finale of the Bassett Waddle with hundreds of Bassett’s leading off the Harvest Day’s Parade.

Farm Heritage Festival
This two-day event celebrates farm life from the turn of the century to the present. Entertainment includes Border Collie sheep herding, wagon and barrel train rides, rope and scarecrow making, a tractor and antique vehicle parade, live music, quilting and heritage crafts, and a large model train display.
Harvest Frolic Fall Celebration
Celebrate the arrival of autumn with Lincoln Log Cabin’s annual Harvest Frolic on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28 from 10am to 4pm daily. Activities will take place at both the Lincoln and Sargent farms including children’s games, doll making and hearth cooking. There will also be a three-legged race, a cast iron skillet toss, two-man saw contest and a “dipping cup race” and a special scavenger hunt will be open to children 12 years of age or younger. Visitors are encouraged to take part in these period games and activities. Demonstrations, food, period music and entertainment along with our featured visiting artisans will round out the weekend programing.

20th Annual Historic Cemetery Walk
Follow a guide through one of Galena's oldest cemeteries while costumed re-enactors bring to life some of the most interesting residents in this historic cemetery. Being portrayed this year are various notable Galenians. The last portion of the presentation will be titled “The Widows of Galena” and will highlight the lives of four Galena widows as they discuss the social conventions and attitudes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Super City Blues & Ques
Friday night is the "anything but" competition, with open entries for entrees, sides, sauces, and sweets. Each entry is $25, and monetary prizes up to $75 are awarded in each category. Vendors start selling at lunchtime, and live music starts in the afternoon. The beer garden will open in the late afternoon, and will be located next to the stage. Saturday is the Kansas City BBQ Society competition, with the grand champion winning $1000 plus a 6' trophy. Vendors will be selling all day and bands will start in the afternoon and play until 10:00 PM. Also on Saturday, there will be "touch a tractor" for the kids, and an arts and crafts fair for everyone.

Mattoon Bagelfest 2014
Bagelfest is a 28 year old festival in Mattoon that began on the idea of hospitality. When the Lender’s Bagel Factory moved to Mattoon, not everyone in town knew about bagels. So Murray Lender introduced his product to the community with a free bagel breakfast held in downtown Mattoon. And then a festival was born. Through many changes and additions now the festival is more than three days of activities including three nights of nationally known musicians, carnival, food and craft vendors, dog show and baby contest and of course there is still a free bagel breakfast to celebrate the hospitality and generosity of Murray Lender.

2nd Annual Marbold Farmstead Antique Show

The Marbold Farmstead was the central hub of the Marbold family farmland holdings which consisted of over 4,000 acres and was virtually self-sufficient. The original house was built in 1850 and was one of the most notable homes in central Illinois. It is being restored and is home to an annual Antique Show featuring a wide range of vendors. Enjoy a beautiful natural setting and find the perfect items. Take in food, drinks, activities and demonstrations. Chicago Kids and Kites Festival is a fun-filled day to celebrate the joys of being a kid. Phases of the Moon Music & Art Festival
The inaugural Phases of the Moon Music & Art Festival is set to take place September 11-14, 2014 at the beautiful 3.000 acre Kennekuk County Park. Phases of the Moon is a four-day music, arts and camping event thoughtfully tailored to provide a unique festival experience. It boasts four outdoor stages: two main stages that alternate following each set and two smaller stages. Along with amazing music, attendees will have access to farm-to-table food, craft beer, a farmer's market and a mall of diverse craft vendors featuring an array of original items. 71st Annual National Sweetcorn Festival
Diligence, family, and a whole lot of corn! Each and every Labor Day weekend, for the past 70 years, the Hoopeston Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) hosts the National Sweetcorn Festival. Classic American festival events include a midway full of carnival rides, games, and stands of delicious fried goodness, smashing cars at the demo derby, and a grand parade featuring marching bands, pageant queens, and plenty of candy. Being the National Sweetcorn Capital of the World, Hoopeston has to have their own unique twists to the festival. An antique steam engine cooks more than 50 tons hot buttered sweetcorn and is served up to approximately 20,000 visitors over the course of the weekend free of charge! With a line that wraps around the park, it is clear that Hoopeston really does sweetcorn the right way, the best way.
Always held the Wednesday after Labor Day. This large DeKalb County Fair held at the fairgrounds on Illinois Route 34, just south of DeKalb, in Sandwich. A festival of strawberry-related activities and events. This includes special sales promotions throughout the Arthur area. A strawberry social is held in conjunction at the Otto Center south of town. Strawberries are available for purchase and there will be limited giveaways during the festival. Lots of entertainment and activities, including the bands Battle Creek, Gunny Sack Revue and Deep Water.
Arthur Area Freedom Celebration
The event kicks off with a parade followed by a gigantic fireworks display with an exceptional array of shells at Jurgens Park. The 500 ft. long Niagara Falls and the Wall of Fire are some of the crowd favorites. The finale and top crowd favorite is the Rural Patriot on his horse of freedom carrying the American Flag. Activities begin at 4pm and include powered parachute helicopters, WW2 aircraft and skydivers from the Mid-America Parachute Club. Food and drink vendors and handicap parking available.
Annual Abe’s River Race
Abe’s Canoe Race is a celebration on the beautiful Sangamon River that led a young Abraham Lincoln to settle in New Salem, and of course the rest is history. This event features a 19 mile canoe/kayak race for the serious competitors along with a gentle float for adults and families on a shorter course. This is a great way to see the river that is largely undeveloped and unchanged. Following the race, you’ll want to take in the fun at Riverbank Lodge for the Awards Ceremony, fresh grilled food, live music and drinks. Enjoy summer fun in the sun in beautiful Petersburg, Illinois, just two miles north of Lincoln’s New Salem.
48th Annual Virginia Bar-B-Que
Join the celebration of summer with activities for all on the downtown courthouse lawn. Opening ceremonies begin on Friday evening and events continue through Sunday's final Nashville Country act on the stage. Also enjoy Bar-B-Que lunch and dinner, flea market, carnival rides, continuous entertainment, awards, Queen contest, Karaoke contest. A fund raiser for community needs and projects.
Grand Detour Gardening Symposium
The John Deere Historic Site will host three speakers giving sessions on organic gardening, planting potted annuals, and vertical gardening. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served.

Pecatonica River Trail Summer Flotilla
Enjoy an early summer that only Northwest Illinois can deliver. Start the morning with a leisurely canoe or kayak paddle down the natural water trail of the Pecatonica River. Paddle from McConnell Bobtown Landing (7.9 miles or 2 1/2 hours) to McNeil's Damascus Landing followed by lunch. 9 am - 12 pm
Tour De Cure
Join over 1,000 cyclists, in the fight to stop diabetes, at the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater. Choose to ride 10, 30, 50 or 100 miles on routes that will take you through beautiful rural Illinois with various terrains, from flat to moderate rolling hills. Cyclists of all ages can find a route that suits them in this well-supported ride. Rest stops are located approximately every 10 miles and are stocked with water, snacks, beverages and first aid. Support vehicles patrol the routes for your assistance and safety. Following your ride, enjoy an extraordinary post-event party that includes live music and great food! Held at Scott County Fairgrounds in Winchester, this fair includes a 4-H auction and Jr. Agricultural Show. This is a University of Illinois Extension event.
FrogHops 5k & 10k No. 1 of 4/ & "Bunny Wabbit" Run

Monticello Christian Academy's 9th Annual Praise in the Park
Bring lawn chairs and blankets out to Piatt County Forest Preserve Park from Noon-7pm – the grills will be fired up with pork chop sandwiches and hot dogs. There will also be sno-cones, popcorn, fun games, balloons and a bounce house. Schedule to include worship and live contemporary Christian music.
Tour De Donut
A 32 +/- bicycle race that starts and ends in Staunton, IL Firemen’s Park. While racing, riders stop at two check points (donut stops). While donut consumption is not mandatory, donuts consumed will reward the rider with 5 minutes off their time for each donut.

The Polar Express at Monticello Railway Museum
Held at Monticello Railway Museum. Read along with the story as the train makes its round-trip journey to the North Pole. Meet Santa and enjoy caroling, hot chocolate, surprises and a treat. Embrace the Race 10k/5k
The 3rd Annual Embrace the Race 5k/10k will be held on Mother's Day at 8:00am for 10k and 8:15am for 5k. Run or walk in the beautiful streets of Highland Park and experience Highland Park's Famous Beach Hill! Post Race Festivities will include refreshments. Register early and save.

Elkhart Wildflower Nature Walks
Enjoy the spectacular wildflowers on Elkhart Hill. Everyone will receive a wildflower "bingo" card to learn the names of the flowers and keep track of the beautiful flowers they will see. Walks are limited to 15 people and will last approximately 90 minutes. The outing will be on foot. The walks are scheduled for 10 am and 2 pm on the following Saturdays in April: 4/12/14, 4/19/14, and 4/26/14
