Festival of the Vine

It’s a great night as you don’t have to bring a dish to pass or talk to relatives. If you have never tried a turkey testicle, this is your chance! No need to worry about the weather the festival is held under one huge heated tent, with plenty of portable potties available. The bar is open but the number of people allowed inside at any one time is limited, as it can become pretty packed. There will also be hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale to remember the night. “So grab a friend that's never been, enjoy a cold brew, great music, and hot nuts!" Activities begin at 10:00am and include the Renaissance Center Fun Fair, activities in the Joliet Historical Museum, Joliet Public Library, Gji's Sweet Shoppe, Jitters Coffeehouse, Chicken-N-Spice, The Red Goose Bakery and more. The Annual Festival of Trees held yearly inside the Rialto Square Theatre also add to the holiday festivities. Tree Lighting begins at 5:15pm in Van Buren Plaza Followed by the Light Up the Holidays Parade at 5:30pm.

Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, the youngest President of the United States, was one of the most interesting men who ever lived. Throughout his life he was a cattle rancher, deputy sheriff, historian, naturalist, explorer, author of 35 books, police commissioner, assistant secretary of the Navy, governor of New York, war hero, lawyer, and the first American to win a Nobel Prize. Speaker, Mr. Evans was trained for the theatre at Northwestern University, New York University, and the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. As manager and director of the Monarch Theatre Company, he brought Shakespeare, Opera, and literary adaptations to schools throughout the American Midwest. 44th Annual Christmas Crossroads Craft Show
Christmas Crossroads, presented by the Lockport Woman's Club, has been a crowd pleaser since its inception in 1971. Featured this year will be 185-190 artisans and craftsmen from a 6 state area, selling such items as Christmas wreaths, centerpieces, ornaments, dolls and doll clothes. Also highlighted are hand painted glass and windows, bath salts and soaps, purses, plus quilted and sewn creations, dog/cat items, music boxes, jewelry, pottery, candles, garden art, and photographs. Also included are children's and women's clothing, a variety of Christmas angels and snowmen, herbal vinegar's and oils, dips, floral, furniture, American Girl/Bitty Baby accessories and wooden and country crafts. Local organizations participating include Trinity, Lockport Boy Scout Troop 63, Lockport Lion's Club, St. John Episcopal Church and Hospice. All proceeds from the show are used for collegiate, vocational and summer camp scholarships. Maple Festival at Touch of Nature, a free educational family-fun event to learn the history and see the process of making maple syrup from the woods to the kitchen. It includes maple syrup demonstrations, tree identification hikes and a home-cooked pancake breakfast which includes maple syrup harvested a Touch of Nature. The event also features blacksmith, hide tanning, silk embroidery, furniture making and other demonstrations, as well as local artisans and vendors. Admission to the event is free. Storytelling at Fox Ridge
Many different storytelling events are held under the serenity of the pines at Fox Ridge, our outdoor education & entertainment venue, across from the main doors of the Lodge. Campfire Stories are every Saturday night from July through October. Join us and some of the Illinois Valley’s most engaging storytellers as they share stories, legends, facts and fiction around the fire. Audience participation is welcome so be ready for some fun! Storytime starts at 7:00 pm. Come and sit around the campfire and share your own stories as well as listen to stories told by professionals. Don't worry about the snacks. Popcorn and supplies for s'mores will be sold at the Fox's Den.
Trolley Fall Colors Tour
Enjoy Starved Rock during the most beautiful time of the year. This fall tour includes a relaxing trolley ride, hot lunch in the rustic main dining room and a guided scenic hike to Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon. Tours are available every Monday and Saturday in October. Reservations are required. Ticket prices are $30 per adult and $25 per child (10 and under).
Starved Rock Lodge's Outdoor Woman Workshop
Trade your to-do list for a weekend for yourself and friends. Ever wanted to pull back a bow and shoot an arrow? How about learning the proper way to saddle a horse? This is a day filled with fun where women from all over will gather and learn nontraditional skills in a relaxed environment. Starved Rock Lodge and the National Wild Turkey Federation bring classes to this workshop, such as shooting. 5 workshops, 2 meals and snacks are included in both days events. The only class that will be offered on Friday is shooting and Friday is not sold alone. Call to reserve a spot! Participation in only Saturday's workshops is $65 and both days is $92 per person.
Breakfast with Santa
Join the jolliest man, as well as the Mrs., for a breakfast buffet at Starved Rock Lodge. Following breakfast, you'll be treated to "Magic by Cory". Also attending will be "Grace" a white-tailed deer from the Furry Friends. Children may take turns sitting on Santa's lap to tell him their Christmas wishes and receive a chocolate treat. New Year's Eve Overnight at Starved Rock Lodge
Join the party and stay the night on New Year's Eve-Dec. 31, 2014. Stay a night at the historic Starved Rock Lodge where the New Year's Eve party takes place in the Great Hall and Starved Rock Room. The two-sided fireplace is aglow and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The cocktail hour begins with an open bar and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a New Year's Eve Dinner Buffet, a champagne toast at midnight, 1:00 am pastries and brunch on New Year`s Day. Two live bands performing during the evening to keep you entertained!
