Scripps Park Golf Course
Scripps Park Golf Course was originally built as a 9-hole course in 1923. The original 9 has many rolling fairways with bunkered greens and challenging water hazards. In 2002 the course expanded to 18 holes with the back 9 having the open feeling of a "links style" course. The wide fairways and creative hazards complement the demanding greens. All 18 holes are irrigated and provide consistent play from early spring to late fall. The course is long enough to be enjoyably challenging but easily accessible to walkers as well as cart players. You can purchase annual individual or family passes or pay by the round. Cart rental and a well stocked pro shop is available. The course can also accommodate groups and corporate outings.

The land for Scripps Park was donated by the Scripps family. The park was the site of the homestead of the Scripps family, pioneers in journalism. Scripps Park offers a swimming pool, tennis courts, the Virginia community building, playground, picnic area, baseball diamonds, and two guest houses for rent. The golf course is an 18-hole public course built in 1923 with irrigation from tee to green. There are approximately 16 bunkers strategically placed around the course and water hazards are in play.

Trail run consists of a 5k, 10k and 15k run on trails through Lincoln's New Salem. The Marbold Farmstead was the central hub of the Marbold family farmland holdings which consisted of over 4,000 acres and was virtually self-sufficient. The original house was built in 1850 and was one of the most notable homes in central Illinois. It is being restored and is home to an annual Antique Show featuring a wide range of vendors. Enjoy a beautiful natural setting and find the perfect items. Take in food, drinks, activities and demonstrations. Country Primitives, Furniture, Pottery, Textiles and Americana from dealers from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Central Illinois. Antique Farm Show at Lincoln's New Salem
Horse drawn plows, historic farming equipment and agricultural techniques from the 19th century will be featured during the Antique Farm Show. A display of historic farming equipment will be set up in a field by the Blacksmith Shop near the entrance to the village, allowing Antique Farm Show visitors to learn about the latest developments in agriculture from Abraham Lincoln's time to the early 1900s. The Vintage Ag Association of Menard County will have an antique tractor display in the parking lot by the Visitor Center.

Morgan Horse Demonstration
Mississippi Valley Morgan Horse Club (MVMHC) will present historic demonstrations of the Morgan Horse, "America's first breed," Also included will be demonstrations of modern uses of the Morgan horse, including trail riding, dressage, driving and society horse shows. There will be ongoing horse activities to observe between sessions, a large variety of free educational and promotional materials for adults and kids, and an opportunity to visit with MVMHC members and get up close to the beautiful Morgan horses.

Obscura Society IL: Behind the History and Under the Ground at Lincoln's New Salem
A day after the historic recreation of Lincoln's funeral train in Springfield, join us for a closer look at a place that bears Lincoln's name, but contains the echoes of many 19th century lives. Take a “behind-the-history” tour of this shrine to Abraham Lincoln, and it early depiction of the American frontier. The tour will examine the layout of the village as it was, and what it became during the 20th century. Advance tickets highly recommended. Look for Atlas Obscura signs in the main parking lot. Starts promptly at 1:00 pm.

July 12 features Eastern Illinois University Associate Professor, Dr. Chris Laingen, will share data from the Census of Agriculture from 1925 to 2012 and will illustrate the changes in crops, livestock, and land use that have occurred in the Corn Belt. A special added feature at the July Second Sunday will be the Menard County Vintage Ag Association on site with some of their collection of farm implements.

This Sunday features Dick Lyons, a native of Montgomery County and fourth-generation farmer growing corn, soybeans, and wheat with cover crops, will share his knowledge of farming practices dating from the 1800's to today's technological world of modern agriculture. A special added feature at the June Second Sunday will be Heart Strings, a dulcimer group from Petersburg.
