35th Annual Sunset Concert Series
The weekend begins on Thursday evening in Carbondale during the summer, as hundreds gather to attend the welcoming, relaxing and fun tradition that is the Sunset Concert series. Attendees bring everything from beer-pong tables and barbecue grills to pop-up tents and couches. The concerts rotate between two beautiful venues, with the more contemporary acts on the Steps of Shryock Auditorium and the mellower, more traditional bands playing under the Lenus Turley Park gazebo.

The University Museum
The Museum has a collection of over 52,000 objects. It houses an art collection and a collection of prehistoric, historic, and scientific objects. One of the permanent and very popular exhibits is the "W.P.A. Pioneer Dioramas", which were created by local craftsmen employed at the Museum during the Works Progress Administration, 1938-1942. In this flick, the U.S. Marshal character from The Fugitive is on the hunt for a wanted man after he escapes from a prisoner transport plane during a spectacular crash. Located on Main Street in historic downtown Alto Pass, the Alto Wine Trail Loft provides 2 new units, both with 2 bedrooms offering unique accommodations for experiencing the wineries and wilderness of Southern Illinois. An alternative to cabins in Southern Illinois, the Wine Loft is a vacation loft rental in Southern Illinois. A unique getaway in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, the Loft is a private vacation rental, close to Giant City, Southern Illinois University, and the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. The historic building that is home to the Wine Loft was constructed in 1912 as a general store. The Loft renovations used environmentally friendly material and preserved as much of the original brick work and exterior as possible.
