Built in 1845, this building served as the center of county government until the county seat was moved to Eureka in 1896. It is one of the two surviving courthouses on the historic 8th Judicial Circuit traveled by Abraham Lincoln. The Metamora Courthouse State Historic Site is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 1-5pm March through October and noon to 4pm November through February. It is also open by appointment and for most events on the Metamora Square. The courthouse is available for weddings, meetings and other private events.

Whether you are just beginning in photography, are an advanced amateur or a professional, you are welcome to the Starved Rock Photography Club. Monthly photography walks at Starved Rock State Park's Lodge with club leader, Jacki Pienta. The Photography Club will meet each month throughout the year for guided walks to planned sites for photography opportunities. Members will informally exchange ideas and tips for quality nature and wildlife photos. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. Hike will be around 4.5 miles round trip. This hike is classified as strenuous. Lunch includes: your choice of turkey, ham or PB&J, bag of chips, homemade granola bar, piece of fruit and a bottle of water. Advanced reservations are required as space is limited. $17 per person.

After lunch, hikers will hike to Sac Canyon and the canyon head of Aurora Canyon. The tour concludes at the Lodge about 2:00pm. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. This hike is approximately 4.5 miles round trip. This hike is classifies as strenuous as there will be multiple stairways. Lunch includes: ham, turkey or PB&J, bag of chips, homemade granola bar, piece of fruit and bottle of water. Advance reservations are required as space is limited. $17 per person.
Hike into History
This hiking tour is offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights every month (excluding July and October). There's nothing better than a guided hike to see the best parts of the park and learn its rich history. Reserve your room or cabin at Starved Rock Lodge on Tuesday or Wednesday night and take a guided hike on Wednesday or Thursday morning at 9:00 am from the Lobby. When you get back from your hike, you'll enjoy lunch in the Dining Room. The hike on Tuesday and Wednesday will go to Starved Rock and French Canyon unless otherwise requested. On Thursday you will join the weekly Walkers Club and go along with them on their pre-scheduled, weekly hike. Family Cabins are excluded from packages.

LaSalle County Historical Society's 45th Annual Burgoo Festival takes place in downtown Utica. Stroll the main streets of Utica for a day of crafts, shopping food and fun. While you are there be sure to try the pioneer stew (Burgoo). 9:00am - 5:00pm.
Storytelling at Fox Ridge
Many different storytelling events are held under the serenity of the pines at Fox Ridge, our outdoor education & entertainment venue, across from the main doors of the Lodge. Campfire Stories are every Saturday night from July through October. Join us and some of the Illinois Valley’s most engaging storytellers as they share stories, legends, facts and fiction around the fire. Audience participation is welcome so be ready for some fun! Storytime starts at 7:00 pm. Come and sit around the campfire and share your own stories as well as listen to stories told by professionals. Don't worry about the snacks. Popcorn and supplies for s'mores will be sold at the Fox's Den.
Basket Weaving - Weaving with Natural Elements
A relaxing beginner class with Leesa Tipton, that will teach you the art of basket weaving. Anyone can sign up regardless of skill level. This will be a beginner level basket where everyone will take home their finished basket. Project will be a small basket with a wooden base that will hold a Yankee Candle (not included) and woven with materials from common plants from local gardens. There will also be plenty of time for visiting and sipping wine. Included is all the weaving materials needed and a glass of wine and snacks. Class can accommodate 20 people and reservations are required. 6:30-8:30pm 7/10 & 9/18 at The Studio - Cattails.
New Year's Eve Overnight at Starved Rock Lodge
Join the party and stay the night on New Year's Eve-Dec. 31, 2014. Stay a night at the historic Starved Rock Lodge where the New Year's Eve party takes place in the Great Hall and Starved Rock Room. The two-sided fireplace is aglow and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The cocktail hour begins with an open bar and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a New Year's Eve Dinner Buffet, a champagne toast at midnight, 1:00 am pastries and brunch on New Year`s Day. Two live bands performing during the evening to keep you entertained!
Trolley Fall Colors Tour
Enjoy Starved Rock during the most beautiful time of the year. This fall tour includes a relaxing trolley ride, hot lunch in the rustic main dining room and a guided scenic hike to Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon. Tours are available every Monday and Saturday in October. Reservations are required. Ticket prices are $30 per adult and $25 per child (10 and under).

Metamora Court House Museum
The Metamora Courthouse was built in 1845 and served as the center of county government until the county seat was moved to Eureka in 1896. It is one of two surviving courthouses on the historic Eighth Judicial Circuit traveled by Abraham Lincoln. In 1978 the Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The first floor of the two-story brick structure contains a central hall flanked by two exhibit rooms, one displaying artifacts of early local history, the other with exhibits describing the 1850s court system and Lincoln's life on the Eighth Judicial Circuit. On the second floor, the former courtroom and two small chambers are furnished to represent the era during which Lincoln practiced law.

Christmas Trolley Lights Tour
Relax before the holidays on this illuminated tour of the LaSalle, Peru, Oglesby and Utica area, just days before Christmas. Let the staff plan the route and do the driving so you can enjoy light displays in our fully enclosed trolley. The trolleys are heated but you may want to bring along an extra blanket. Each tour will have a guide to get into the holiday spirit through some Christmas carols and songs. Tours run from 6-8pm and reservations are a must.
Oktoberfest Dinners are a celebration of Germany! Enjoy food, beer, wine and music. Join the fun! Sample German wine and beer, a buffet of German foods and listen to music by the Doodledorfers Band. Reservations are required for this event. Food, beer, wine and music from 5:00-7:00pm.
Boggio's Orchard and Produce Pumpkin Harvest Craft Show
Boggio's Pumpkin Harvest Craft Show features new crafts from over 130 crafters. There's food, music, hay and pony rides, an animal barn, pedal cars, pig races, and a corn maze to keep the kids entertained! The bakery sells delicious cider donuts, award-winning apple cider, fudge, canned jellies honey and fresh vegetables picked daily. Your family will enjoy the option of picking their own apples and pumpkins in the orchard and patch! Open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a $3.00 entry to the craft show.
Have you ever wanted to hike all the canyons in the park? Well now you can do it in one day. Board a trolley with a pair of guides and to begin your trek at the east end of the park. Hikes leave the Lodge at 8:30a.m. & 9:00a.m. and return at approximately 4:30 & 5:00p.m. Included is trolley transportation, guides, boxed lunch (1/2 way) and a specially designed T-shirt. Reservations are required. $35.00 per person.
