The Coal Country Fall Festival is a family oriented event which has features that appeal to all ages. Many parts of the festival are free and entertaining and educational. This year’s outstanding display is a free display of dinosaurs including a life-size dinosaur. Free and live are exotic animals in a petting zoo, including Alaskan reindeer, pygmy goats, two-hump camels, and buffalo. A live reptile display is also a part of the day. Saturday, September 24, will mark the 11th Anniversary of the Tour de Coal. This family oriented bicycle ride is for cyclists of all levels of expertise and is held in conjunction with this year's 17th Annual Coal Country Chamber of Commerce's Fall Festival held at the Benld City Park.
Try your hand at the Litchfield TriathLou at Lake Lou Yaeger. Swimming in Lake Lou Yaeger is the best open water swim you will have in the Midwest. There really is no comparison to this large beach with pristine flat racing water. The bike course is flat and fast with some great curves to keep you entertained the whole ride. Both the 5k and 10k runs see very honest mile paces with plenty of flats, and a couple hills throughout. Sprint and Olympic distances are available.

The restaurant is known for charbroiled burgers, homemade pies and hearty breakfasts, particularly biscuits and gravy made with fresh sausage from locally produced hogs. The decor follows a diner theme with a black-and-white checkered floor and red vinyl seat cushions on chrome booths, tables and chairs. Walls are lined with vintage signs, photos of old vehicles and other Route 66 memorabilia and even has an outdoor patio.
