Andrew Carnegie Library - The Arcola Public Library
An original Andrew Carnegie built in 1905. The library boasts all of its original classic revival architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As you drive by this farm, your eye is drawn upward to a towering brick structure located near the modern home. The structure, erected around 1913, is one of a dozen brick water towers still standing in Illinois.

Mattoon Welcome Center & Historic Railroad Depot
Mattoon Tourism & Arts Welcome Center is located in the historic Illinois Central Railroad Train Depot, which also still serves as the Amtrak Station for the Community. The original Railroad Depot was constructed in 1918 by the Illinois Central Railroad, and it was then remodeled in 2011. The Depot is still an active Amtrak Station with 3,000 passengers boarding and un-boarding per month. The welcome center offers a host of information: state-of-the-art schools & colleges, a growing economy, beautiful parks, lakes and sports amenities round out the more favorable quality of life found in Mattoon.
Indian Treaty Site
A marker commemorates the point where two important trails intersected on the prairie: Detroit to St. Louis and Peoria to Terre Haute. In 1765, the British and the Illinois Indians signed a peace treaty here.

Lincoln School Museum
The Lincoln School Museum is a restored 1880’s one-room brick school located one mile north of Martinsville, Clark County, Illinois on a spur of the National Road. The Lincoln School is representative of the brick construction of one-room schools built during the 1880’s, representing the typical one-room school of the era, and the education available of that time. The Lincoln School Museum is open to the public on weekends from June through August and any time by appointment.

The World's One and Only Hippie Memorial
Created by the late Bob Moomaw. Bob worked as a railroad clerk and tax assessor, but did not like either job. As an eccentric, independent artist with strong beliefs, he was able to give voice to his feelings, passions, and opinions through his art and the writing on the sides of buildings. He created the 62-foot-long artwork starting in 1992 to say something about his life and the era during which he lived. A nearby marker gives an interpretation of his work.

Bagelfest is a 29 year old festival in Mattoon that began on the idea of hospitality. When the Lender’s Bagel Factory moved to Mattoon, not everyone in town knew about bagels. So Murray Lender introduced his product to the community with a free bagel breakfast held in downtown Mattoon. And then a festival was born. Through many changes and additions now the festival is more than three days of activities including three nights of nationally known musicians, carnival, food and craft vendors, dog show and baby contest and of course there is still a free bagel breakfast to celebrate the hospitality and generosity of Murray Lender.

Flesor's Candy Kitchen
At Flesor's Candy Kitchen we're just happy that warm weather prompts folks traveling up and down Interstate 57 or Route 36 to take the Tuscola, Illinois exit, stop at our great Tanger outlet mall, and then navigate a tiny bit more to our little downtown where they discover the treasure that is our store. We are also thrilled to welcome tourists to our region who have come to explore Amish Country and include in their itinerary a look at a couple of non-Amish, ½ Greek sisters who make candy the old-fashioned way, too. During summer, people flock to our hundred-year-old soda fountain (homemade ice-cream!) and are delighted that we serve good food for lunch every day from 11:00 to 3:00. We also welcome buses, and crazy Devon is almost always on hand to stand on a chair to give her “speech” about the store's history and offer big groups a tour of the candy room.
This is the preserved home of Reuben Moore and his wife Matilda, who was a daughter of Sarah Bush Lincoln and stepsister of Abraham Lincoln. The frame Moore Home dates back to the late 1850s.
Belly up to this old-time soda fountain that serves up ice cream treats. The marble-topped counter was moved here in the 1930s and is surrounded by 600 vintage soda bottles and photos of the town of Arthur's yesteryear.

This 1885 train depot displays Illinois Central Railroad memorabilia, the largest Louis Klein collection of antique brooms and brushes in the United States, and interesting Arcola relics and keepsakes. Because Arcola is the birthplace of Raggedy Ann creator Johnny Gruelle, Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls and collectibles are also on display.
Arthur Amish Country Christmas Kickoff
The Christmas lighted parade steps off at 5:30pm and will showcase Santa & Mrs. Claus through downtown Arthur. Immediately following the parade, Santa will visit with children and parents in Knights Court downtown to start collecting those early Christmas requests. Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be served during his visit. Throughout the day, businesses in the downtown area as well as the countryside will feature early Christmas bargains and host Open Houses.
