Step back in time in an authentically reconstructed fort from the early 1800's. Relive history as settlers, militia, traders and craftsmen gather at Fort LaMotte. Friday is set aside for school children. Saturday and Sunday are open to the public.

Join Master Naturalist Anne Parmley on a birding walk at Cache River State Natural Area, Michael Wolff Memorial Wetland. Binoculars are recommended. Black Vultures and turkey vultures fly and swoop in the skies surrounding Makanda each fall. Local residents await their return each fall as an end to the hot summer and the beginning of cooler fall weather. This event is a celebration of the Vulture’s annual migration with live music and displays by local artists for purchase. The Deer Park St. Paddy’s 5k features live Irish music to get everyone in the spirit, pucker up as you run beneath the on course kiss me I'm Irish arch. 3rd Annual Run to Zero 5K
The 3rd annual Run to Zero 5K takes place on a scenic, point-to-point course in early spring to kick off the running season. Run includes a single loop, bringing you right back to the North Bay Pavilion where the Finish Line Celebration will be in full swing! With no hills and a few curves as the course follows the outline of the preserve, it is walkable in 45 minutes, so people can walk, run or both! The event also includes refreshments, entertainment, and post-race festivities complete with live music, games and activities

Toughest trail race in the Midwest. Extreme 12K trail run and 1 mile mini mayhem. The footing (What footing?) is hilly, muddy (several water crossings), and loose in places. The trail is not maintained (non-existent) in some places. Expect to be scratched and bruised. Located in the beautiful Mill Creek Park in Marshall Illinois.

Essence Of Freedom Run
The Essence Of Freedom Run is an annual event to raise funds that are desperately needed by the brave men and women both active duty and Veterans, who defend our country in the armed forces. Choose from a 5K or 10K race and run through the streets of downtown Deerfield. Active Duty, including Police and Fire Departments, run free. Register before February 15th and save $5.

Nearly Sane Trail Half Marathon
The Nearly Sane Trail Half Marathon will be 13.1 miles through the trails of Half Day Forest Preserve (permit pending), onto the trails of the Des Plaines River trail and back to the festival area where you can enjoy your well-deserved beer and hot dog! The start/finish area will be located at Shelter C of Half Day Forest Preserve in Lake County and take place on the beautiful trails of Lake County, which are some of the best that Chicagoland has to offer!

IHSA State Bassing Fishing Finals
Illinois is the first state in the Nation to have its high school sports association sanction high school largemouth bass fishing. High school fishermen from all over the state descend on Carlyle to show their fishing skills, catching bass at Carlyle. The city sponsors a food/vendor event to coincide with the Bass Finals. 9th Annual Red Carpet Corridor - Joliet Area Historical Museum
The 9th Annual Red Carpet Corridor including activities at the Joliet Area Historical Museum. It is all about family fun on the most famous road in America - Route 66. This year’s event will be Saturday, May 2, from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, May 3, from 8 AM to 3 PM. Sponsored by the twelve communities which make up the 90-mile linear museum from Joliet to Towanda, the annual festival invites everyone to experience the good life in the slow lane. Each community will produce its own events. From full-blown festivals to antique and craft sales, art sales, car and motorcycle shows, live entertainments, and plenty of yard, garage, and sidewalk sales along the way, everyone is sure to discover something unique. Food, snacks and treats will be in abundance, and there are plenty of historic sites, outstanding free museums and unique mom & pop businesses to help create a nostalgic journey for all to enjoy. Visitors can simply enjoy the drive, stop and have their picture taken with Elvis, or do a little shopping in any of the great stores along the Mother Road.
Antique Farm Show at Lincoln's New Salem
Horse drawn plows, historic farming equipment and agricultural techniques from the 19th century will be featured during the Antique Farm Show. A display of historic farming equipment will be set up in a field by the Blacksmith Shop near the entrance to the village, allowing Antique Farm Show visitors to learn about the latest developments in agriculture from Abraham Lincoln's time to the early 1900s. The Vintage Ag Association of Menard County will have an antique tractor display in the parking lot by the Visitor Center.

Midwest Morel Fest
Learn, hunt and buy morel mushrooms during Ottawa’s Annual Midwest Morel Fest. This unique festival offers ‘everything mushrooms for the morel enthusiast to the curious observer!
