Kickapoo Creek Park
Kickapoo State Recreation Area in Oakwood, IL has 22 deep-water ponds, ranging in size from 0.2 to 57 acres, providing a total of 221 acres of water for boaters, canoeists and anglers. Lushly forested uplands and bottomlands along the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River is habitat for enough birds, wildlife and wildflowers to please any nature lover, while nature trails and running trails provide pathways to inspiration and physical fitness. If you want a less demanding excursion in the outdoors, there are facilities for camping and picnicking. With 22 lakes and access to the Middle Fork River, Kickapoo is known for the opportunities it provides for water-based outdoor activities. Anglers find excellent fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, crappie and redear sunfish. Especially popular are the annual fall and spring stockings of rainbow trout, which provide an unusual opportunity for central Illinois anglers to fish for catch-able size trout. There are 12 launching ramps on nine of Kickapoo's lakes. Boat and canoe rental is available for Clear Pond.

A full-scale, live performance theater, with art galleries, on the campus of Millikin University.
Three galleries on the Millikin University Campus feature changing one-artist exhibits during the academic year. The Perkinson Gallery hosts a wide range of exhibitions that focus on work by professional artists from Illinois and the Midwest, in addition to work by artists with national recognition. The gallery has 2,000 square feet of floor space, with 132 linear feet of wall space. Patrons may view the displayed work for free, Monday through Friday from noon to 5 pm. The Lower Gallery focuses on photographic works. Student artists display their works in the Studio Gallery. The Lower and Studio Galleries are open Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm Free admission.

Lincoln Heritage Museum
Located on the campus of the only college named for Lincoln in his lifetime, the Lincoln Heritage Museum exhibits a rare and valuable collection of artifacts that tell the story of the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. The museum houses many rare Lincoln artifacts, including an 1860 campaign poster, a lock of his hair, Mary Lincoln's jewelry and Tad Lincoln's rocking chair. Built in 1922, the theater built by Steve Bennis opened in 1923 showing "John Quincy Adams Sawyer." It was originally a single screen featuring an organ and live stage shows as well. This open-air market provides a great opportunity to buy local produce, baked goods, flowers and more. The market runs from May 1 to the end of October on Saturdays and Wednesdays at Scully Park Downtown Lincoln.
Celebrate Bloomington's Lincoln connections and the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War with a weekend of activities at multiple sites. Highlights will include Storyteller Brian Fox Ellis, Civil War generals, infantry and cavalry encampments, performances by the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band and the Orpheus Mandolin Orchestra. Living history interpreters in period dress, including Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln, will be on hand at numerous locations. Children's activities, carriage rides and demonstrations of period craftsmanship will also be features, along with cannon volleys and skirmishes between troops and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Imagine Abraham Lincoln, the 6'4" lawyer, ducking to avoid bumping his head on the entrance of Macon Country's first courthouse built in 1829, which was the only log courthouse where Lincoln practiced law.
