The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert. The concerts will take place at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.

Glidden Homestead and Historical Center Hammer-In
See how blacksmiths work by hand with red-hot steel to create graceful pieces of beauty and elegance at the Glidden Homestead. On Sunday, September 13, 2015, starting at noon, the Blacksmith Club at the Glidden Homestead and Historical Center will host a Hammer-In. The Blacksmith Club will work on six forges around the site and will demonstrate the trade, techniques, materials, and finished pieces. The twenty minute lessons and demonstrations will continue throughout the day. In the days before hardware and home-improvement stores, Blacksmiths worked with 2000 degree steel forming and shaping it. They made useful and essential objects as well as ornate decorative objects. Also on Sunday, you can tour the home where Joseph Glidden and his family lived when he created his most famous invention, see a working onsite blacksmith shop, and walk where Glidden walked. Admission is $4 per adult and free for children younger than 14.

The park has approximately 100 water, electric and sewer hookups. Each electric hookup has 20amp, 30amp and 50amp service. These hookups can be used with RV's, vendor vehicles, booths, tent or camp setups, and other purposes. Ample space is available for open or primitive camping. Franklin Creek State Natural Area

Rock River Cruise
For those with an urge to explore a genuine Illinois prairie, this ride takes you past one of the largest pieces of preserved prairie in the state. The Rock River Cruise is 34.7-miles of moderate difficulty, with a few small climbs along the way. Stop off and visit some of the many attractions along the way, including the John Deere Historic Site and the charming town of Oregon.
Scheffler Art and Gallery
Long noted throughout northern Illinois for pencil drawings in black and white and color work in acrylic art, the gallery feature displays of Scheffler's art, and also provide a working center to fulfill commissions for patron's special requests. The Rooney Building was recently chosen as a location for a commemorative mural by the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition. The Rooney Building is a companion to the renowned H.I. The Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition has produced many Interpretive Murals along the Illinois Lincoln Highway National Scenic Byway and its corridor in northern Illinois. The Genoa mural depicts the history, heritage, and events of the highway and its impact on Genoa and the other communities along the Illinois route.

Natural Resource Center
The Natural Resource Center is located at Russell Preserve, and is open to the public on weekends. The Center offers a great stop for exploration and live animal viewing for all members of the family. The Center can be reserved by school groups and other organizations for outdoor educational field trips. While there, take a walk through Russell Preserve, beneath mature oaks and hickories, surrounded by woodland wildflowers. In the winter, Russell Preserve is a great place for tobogganning.

It’s Pumpkin Demolition Weekend at Jonamac Orchard! Bring your pumpkin back, or use one of ours to smash, blast, crush, and destroy it in one of our many pumpkin demolition machines! Since 1981, Theis Farm Market has been providing high quality, exceptionally great tasting local produce. They started out with a wagon by the road full of vegetables. Greenhouses came as a necessity for the starting of our field plants. They decided to do a few flowers for fun and that quickly turned into the place to go for top quality beautiful bedding plants, including Barb's original mixed planters and baskets. Now they have bedding and vegetable plants starting in the spring following through to summer with ripe tasty vegetables and into the fall for pumpkins, squash, gourds and all your other fall decorations. They always carry fresh eggs, homegrown popcorn, honey from the bees on their farm, syrups and jams from slack's. Maple Park Fun Fest is a classic small town festival geared for big time entertainment. Occurring over Labor Day Weekend, Fun Fest has provided the perfect way to celebrate summer’s end for over 10 years. Visitors enjoy live entertainment, a huge arts and crafts show, car show, 5K Fun Run, Parade, fireworks, and of course, the famous Toilet Bowl Races – those are just a few of the highlights! Both children and adults will find plenty to do all weekend long. Whether it’s participating in the Kid’s Bike Parade, visiting the Fire Station for Touch-A-Truck, or just hanging out in the beer garden enjoying delicious food, Fun Fest will provide a glimpse into our charming community. Romp in the Park - Maple Park Fun Fest 5K
Come Romp in the Park for the Maple Park Fest 5K race or a 2 mile walk. There are several age groups for the 5K with awards. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and all participants will receive a ribbon. There is an early registration discount, but registration will also be available the day of the race.
