Cornfest Family Fun Day
Our popular family picnic returns! Enjoy hot dogs & hamburgers along with roasted corn on the cob, homemade pies, and sweet taffy apples. There will be plenty of entertainment, including games, races, and a fishing tournament for kids. The giant woodpile will be back, so kids can use hammers, nails, and paint to create whatever they want. Make & Take Corn Husk Dolls project. Midwest Wizard of Oz Fest
The Midwest Wizard of Oz Festival has been a long standing tradition began in 1982 when Wizard of Oz store owner, Jean Nelson, came up with the idea to create an Oz-themed festival. Since then it has grown to be one of the biggest festivals in the nation that produced crowds of about 30,000 people each year. This year, for the first time ever, the Midwest Wizard of Oz Festival has been moved to the Chicago Southland area in Tinley Park, Illinois.

Guided Walking Tour - Somonauk Street
Join Steven Bigolin as he leads guided walking tours of Sycamore’s History District – featuring the beautiful homes along Somonauk Street. Meet at the statue of Wally’ Thurow, at Somonauk and Elm Street. Bigolin will lead a tour highlighting the architecture and local history connected to Sycamore. Villa Park Historical Museum
Built in 1929, the Villa Park Historical Museum building originally served the community as the Villa Ave stop for the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin electric train line and an appliance store. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Today, it houses relics and artifacts from Villa Park's past including articles from the Ovaltine Factory which once operated in Villa Park and Sears Catalog Homes in the area.

Fall Festival at Lincoln’s New Salem
Come and see what a typical autumn life was like on the 1830's Illinois prairie. There will be costumed interpreters demonstrating daily tasks such as candle dipping, butter churning, soap making, basket making, spinning wool, gardening, natural dyeing, and fishing with nets. As well as a demonstration of meat smoking that will take place in one of the log village's period smokehouses. Wild game cooking will be demonstrated in the log homes and you are also welcome to step down into the cellar at the tavern to see how fruits and vegetables were preserved during the winter.

McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Santa Claus, Ronald McDonald and a cast of thousands bring you the 81st Anniversary of the McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade, marching down State Street on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th. Whether you're moving your feet to the melodic carols of marching bands, gazing skyward at the gigantic inflatable helium balloons making their way down the street, or waving at talented entertainers in decorative floats dispensing holiday cheer, there is fun to be had by all at the biggest holiday parade in Chicago. The McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade is the only parade in the city of Chicago to feature inflatable balloons every year. Started in the times of the Great Depression, the Parade has been lifting the spirits of Chicago and bringing the community together in celebration. Over 400,000 people lines the parade route on State Street.

Itasca Oktoberfest 2015
Celebrate all things German at Itasca's Annual Oktoberfest including Authentic German food and gift, music, and more! This free Oktoberfest on Orchard Street features a Kids Korner, the Johnny Wagner Band, and the kick off ceremony with Mayor Pruyen. The Jimmy Bavarians play on Saturday. It runs until 11:00 pm both nights.
Fresh salads, incredible cat fish, crispy chicken sandwiches, and the appetizers can be a meal alone with hand made sauces and dips. Stuffed mushrooms are very popular. Friday and Saturday specials are posted out on a rustic board along the street, and range from prime rib to a local favorite, the fully loaded nachos. The name Diver Down is in recognition of the owner, who is a diver that can help out if anyone at the local marina has a spun prop, or other problem on the Ohio River. Diver Down is a full service bar, waitresses are all local characters that keep things flowing smoothly.

The Who's "Tommy": A Bluegrass Opry at the Effingham Performance Center
The HillBenders' bluegrass version of The Who's iconic rock opera has been released, and now they bring their live performance to the EPC Jan. 15 at 8 p.m.

Urbana Sweetcorn Festival
Now in its 40th year, the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival is Champaign County’s largest free festival. Urbana’s signature summer event is a two-day celebration of food, live music, arts and crafts and of course - all the delicious, locally grown sweet corn you can eat. Taking place in the heart of downtown Urbana, the 2015 festival will run Friday, August 28 from 5 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, August 29 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and features headliners, Berlin and The Psychadelic Furs.
Illinois Philhamonic Orchestra Brahms Symphony #4 at Rialto Square Theatre
Maestro Danzmayr leads the orchestra in the completion of the Brahms cycle with the majestic and melodic Symphony No. 4. Cellist and IPO favorite Joshua Roman also takes the stage for the World Premiere of his Cello Concerto, a piece commissioned by IPO. Adding to the splendor of the evening is Wagner's Rienzi Overture which showcases the orchestra with its eloquent and brilliant lines.

Guided Walking Tour - Main Street
Join Steven Bigolin as he leads a guided walking tours of Sycamore’s Main Street. Bigolin will lead a tour highlighting the architecture and local history connected to the homes along Main Street. Stops on the walk will include, the Townsend House (currently the Paper Doll House) and carriage house (Willow’s Hometown Cafe), the Boyton House, the DeKalb County Court House, Library, Post Office and Rick Turner’s Law office. Meet at the Courthouse lawn. The tour will last about an hour, wear comfortable shoes.Location: Courthouse lawn. Time: 1:00 p.m. Cost: $5 Per Person
Big Run Golf Club
Opened in 1930 and designed by C.H. Muelenford and Sam Sneed. Hundreds of tall oak trees throughout the course (some oaks are centuries old), complimented by five lakes and Long Run Creek, will test your shot making abilities. Big Run Golf Club can be difficult but enjoyable, challenging and sporty. Classic Albums Live takes classic albums and recreates them live, on stage - note for note, cut for cut. This is not a tribute band. There are no gimmicks or fake accents. This is simply a live re-creation of one of the greatest rock albums ever made. 8pm at the magnificent Rialto.

Winter Holiday Hayride
Our annual holiday hayrides will feature the food, fun and traditions from the pioneers of North America. We'll ride on our decorated hay wagon through the streets of Palos Heights singing Christmas carols then return to the Nature Center to enjoy food, crafts and other activities. Registration and payment to be made in person or by mail no later than the Monday before hayride. $8 per person.

Mazon Creek Fossil Tour
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about the environment, ecosystems, and climate of Northern Illinois as it was 300 million years ago by collecting fossil specimens at the Mazon Fossil Beds. The adventure begins with a hayride to the original site of the discoveries along the Mazon Creek as it was in the mid-1800s and the opportunity to collect the unique concretions such as ferns and horsetails. Bring a bucket, rock hammer, shoes to wear in the creek, and casual clothing. Everyone will have specimens to take home to remember the day. Afterwards, more fun is to be had with cocktails and al fresco dining to celebrate your finds. All proceeds will go to the Canal Corridor Association to help preserve I & M Canal history, protect its environment, and create tourism.
Ghosts of Ottawa Past
Ghost stories at the Mansion and a walking tour of Ottawa's notorious haunted spots. Reddick Mansion is one of Ottawa's greatest treasures. Built in 1858, this three story, 22-room Italianate mansion was possibly the most expensive private home in Illinois at that time.
