Come and take a tour of this historic playhouse. This playhouse was built by Dr. and Mrs. William Haskell for their five year old daughter Lucy. It is a rare architectural gem containing many of the flamboyant elements of the Queen Anne style: cartwheels, brackets, spires, diagonal sticking, fish scale shingles and stained glass windows. Its importance is magnified because so few of these accessory structures from children have survived. the playhouse contains a single room, front porch and side porch. The interior has been restored and the playhouse is open for special occasions. The playhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The open house will be held on June 11, July 9, August 13 and September 10, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Robert Wadlow Statue
In 1918, Alton became the famous birthplace of Robert Wadlow, "The Gentle Giant." Born a normal eight pounds in 1918, Wadlow suffered from a pituitary gland problem. He was almost nine feet tall and 500 pounds when he died of complications from a foot infection at age 22. He is noted in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest man alive. A life-sized statue on College Avenue lifts visitors' heads in amazement. The Alton Museum of History and Art have devoted an entire room to Wadlow, including his third-grade desk and oversized grade school ring.

The Great Godfrey Triathlon
The Village of Godfrey will host its second annual Great Godfrey Triathlon in the end of August 2016. All athletes are encouraged to participate in this swimming, biking, and running competition. The course will consist of a open swim in the pond at Glazebrook Park, a 14 mile bike race through picturesque Godfrey and a 5K trail run. Early race packet pick up will be available on Friday, August 26 from 3 - 4:30 pm at the Godfrey Village Hall. Packets will also be available for pick up on the day of the race beginning at 5:30 am onsite. Awards will be handed out for the top three male and female finishers in each age division in addition to the top overall male and female finishers. The Great Godfrey Triathlon is participating in the muniTri series in association with Fleet Feet. Entry fee includes a souvenir t-shirt and complimentary lunch. The Music Theatre Company explores the musical in the interest of expanding the canon of musical theatre through fully-staged productions, commissions of new works and musical experiments.
The Nature Institute
The Nature Institute is a non-profit land conservation and environmental education organization based in Godfrey, IL. Since its founding in 1980, The Nature Institute's board and staff have worked to foster an awareness and appreciation of the natural world through preservation, restoration, and education. The Nature Institute also owns and manages over 450 acres of protected land, such as the Olin Nature Preserve, the Mississippi Sanctuary, the Kemp and Cora Hutchinson Bird Sanctuary, and the Heartland Prairie Project at Gordon Moore Park. These natural areas provide unique places for the public to experience the diversity of the Riverbend area with its hardwood forests, prairies and wetlands. The preserves are open to the public and free to use from dawn to dusk.
The Old Bakery Beer Company
The Old Bakery Beer Company offers high quality local food and beer to downtown Alton. The brewery and restaurant, located at 400 Landmarks Boulevard, has been home to at least 3 bakeries over the last 100 years. Old Bakery Beer will offer four year- round beers, including a Wheat IPA, Rye Pale Ale, Mild Brown Ale, and a Pilsner-style Beer, as well as several rotating seasonal and local guest taps. Hours of Operation: Monday - Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday & Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 12 a.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge
Built in 1927, Old Chain of Rocks was the fifth bridge to cross the Mississippi River, which shortened the distance between St. Louis, Missouri, and Edwardsville, Illinois by 15 miles.
The Palace Theatre
The 60-seat facility is complete with a restored 1928 Barton 12-rank theatre pipe organ. It was originally built to perform popular music and to accompany the silent movies of the 1920s. Group tours available.
The Quilted Garden
The Quilted Garden has distinguished quilting fabric, supplies, silk, ribbon, embroidery, classes, and gifts.
The Sweetest Things
The Sweetest Things has so many decadent hand made chocolates as well as fresh bakery sweets to indulge in. There is a quaint dining area and a cozy lounge area where you can enjoy a specialty coffee drink or a delicious fruit smoothie. They serve delicious deli style lunches throughout the week, with a menu that always changes. But one item always remains, the loaded baked potato soup. A delicious secret recipe handed down to the owner through the generations that is prepared fresh daily as a side option for the “white bag special” lunch combo.

Opened in 1990 to help raise money for the local hospital and nursing home, The Thrift Shop is filled with bargains, hard-to-find items, and new and used merchandise.
