44th Annual Christmas Crossroads Craft Show
Christmas Crossroads, presented by the Lockport Woman's Club, has been a crowd pleaser since its inception in 1971. Featured this year will be 185-190 artisans and craftsmen from a 6 state area, selling such items as Christmas wreaths, centerpieces, ornaments, dolls and doll clothes. Also highlighted are hand painted glass and windows, bath salts and soaps, purses, plus quilted and sewn creations, dog/cat items, music boxes, jewelry, pottery, candles, garden art, and photographs. Also included are children's and women's clothing, a variety of Christmas angels and snowmen, herbal vinegar's and oils, dips, floral, furniture, American Girl/Bitty Baby accessories and wooden and country crafts. Local organizations participating include Trinity, Lockport Boy Scout Troop 63, Lockport Lion's Club, St. John Episcopal Church and Hospice. All proceeds from the show are used for collegiate, vocational and summer camp scholarships. The Manteno Historical Society Museum is headquartered in the Charles Skinner House, located in the center of Manteno. The opening of the Skinner House as a Museum took place in 1994. The first floor of the building has display areas of early 20th century living in the area. Of special interest is the medical display of items from the offices of Dr. Rouleau, Dr. Phipps, Dr. Malott, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Echevarria. Articles from Dr. Gagnon's dental office and pharmaceutical items from Hilsenhoff Drug Store have also been donated. The lower floor includes exhibit space, a kitchen and collections of archival materials. The upper floor presently houses a room commemorating Manteno war veterans featuring uniforms and memorabilia from WWI to the present.

Hikers, campers, picnickers, and canoeists frequent this 30-acre site, making it one of the state's most popular state parks. Fishing, boating and bird watching are also popular activities. This picturesque park is bordered on the south by the Illinois & Michigan Canal and to the north by Nettle Creek which gently flows along the perimeter and through the park adding to its natural beauty and abundance of wildlife. Stately old trees including walnut, oak, ash, maple, sycamore, hawthorn and cottonwood provide ample shade throughout the park. In the spring, trillium, bluebell, white trout lily, violets, wild ginger, phlox, toothwort and spring beauties are just a sample of the wildflowers that can be enjoyed by park visitors.
