The Sports Plex

Grand Detour Arts Festival
The 66th Grand Detour Arts Festival will be at the John Deere Historic Site. Two-and three-dimensional art is shown and offered for sale to the public at this juried fine arts event. A discounted admission fee of $2 is charged for entry to both the site and the arts festival. Enjoy the quality artwork by Midwest, watch the blacksmith at work and learn how John Deere invented the plow. Food stands on site as well as performances by area musicians.

Pecatonica River Trail Summer Flotilla
Enjoy an early summer that only Northwest Illinois can deliver. Start the morning with a leisurely canoe or kayak paddle down the natural water trail of the Pecatonica River. Paddle from McConnell Bobtown Landing (7.9 miles or 2 1/2 hours) to McNeil's Damascus Landing followed by lunch. 9 am - 12 pm
100TH Anniversary of Union Dairy Celebration
Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Union Dairy with a full weekend of special events. Friday is Entertainment Night with a 50s/60s band, Jimmy Fred and the Flames and a country band, Back Country Roads. Plus enjoy a beer tent. Saturday will feature a Car Show with entertainment by 3-D Sound, and Sunday will be Family Day with games, a bounce house, pony rides and more. All three days, enjoy an Historical Downtown Tour by horse and carriage. Plus there will be Union Dairy anniversary souvenirs for sale, "old timers" dipping one more time and more. Friday: 5 pm - 11 pm; Saturday: 4 pm - 8 pm; Sunday: 1 pm - 5 pm.
Illinois Game and Pet Breeders Fall Swap Meet
This swap meet involves the buying, selling and trading of game birds, animals, pets and supplies. Vendors will also be available with local honey, garden plants, flowers, and a small flea market. Events opens at 6 am. Gate Fee: $3.00 per person over the age of 10.

Mighty Richland Players Dessert Theater "Opal's Million Dollar Duck"
While rooting through Opal's Antique Junque Shop, two summer stock leads come across a painting that looks a lot like an old master that disappeared from the local art museum. In order to collect the insurance themselves, the divas, Desmond and Queenie, try to acquire the painting from Opal, who has other plans for the painting. The plot thickens hilariously when the two stars resort to everything from outrageous flattery to knockout drops trying to get their hands on the picture. September 27, 28 29 Friday and Saturday: Doors Open: 7 pm; Show: 7:30 pm; Sunday: Doors Open: 1:30pm; Show: 2:00 pm. All performances are in a dessert theater format. $20
Castle Rock State Park
Castle Rock State Park is located three miles south of Oregon on Highway 2. The 2,000-acre park includes rock formations, ravines, and unique northern plant associations. In one valley, 27 different types of ferns have been identified. A sandstone bluff, adjacent to the river, has given the park its name. Picnic area amenities include tables, shelters, grills, toilets, drinking water and playground equipment. Six miles of marked hiking trails have been developed, and a public boat ramp/parking facility is located across from the park's main entrance.

Lowden State Park
One of the most picturesque sites along the Rock River is just north of Oregon in Ogle County. The bluffs are graced with a majestic image of an American Indian gazing over the Rock River Valley. This is no ordinary statue. It is a 50 foot, concrete-reinforced wonder that is awe-inspiring. A tribute to all Native Americans, but more commonly associated with Chief Black Hawk, the statue was designed by sculptor Lorado Taft. You can enjoy many wonderful views of the Rock River from the park, but the best view of the statue is from IL Rt. 2.
