Scheffler Art and Gallery
Long noted throughout northern Illinois for pencil drawings in black and white and color work in acrylic art, the gallery feature displays of Scheffler's art, and also provide a working center to fulfill commissions for patron's special requests. The Rooney Building was recently chosen as a location for a commemorative mural by the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition. The Rooney Building is a companion to the renowned H.I. Lincoln Building as a Farming Heritage, Inc. historic preservation project.

Free concerts in Hopkins Park Tuesday-Thursday. Friday night is the twilight parade thru downtown DeKalb with drum corps and marching bands. The Drum Corps competition caps off the week at Huskie Stadium. All events are free to attend.
Castle Rock State Park
Castle Rock State Park is located three miles south of Oregon on Highway 2. The 2,000-acre park includes rock formations, ravines, and unique northern plant associations. In one valley, 27 different types of ferns have been identified. A sandstone bluff, adjacent to the river, has given the park its name. Picnic area amenities include tables, shelters, grills, toilets, drinking water and playground equipment. Six miles of marked hiking trails have been developed, and a public boat ramp/parking facility is located across from the park's main entrance.
Rockford Art Museum Exhibition - Modern Metaphors

2014 Rockford Midwestern - Biennial Juried Art Exhibition
The Rockford Midwestern is a biennial juried exhibition that originated as an annual showcase for local artists. The year 2014 marks the 73rd presentation of this regional show that draws the best works from artists from a nine-state region. Artists residing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin participate. With this exhibition, Rockford Art Museum shows its commitment to presenting the breadth and depth of contemporary art in the Midwest.
Lowden State Park
One of the most picturesque sites along the Rock River is just north of Oregon in Ogle County. The bluffs are graced with a majestic image of an American Indian gazing over the Rock River Valley. This is no ordinary statue. It is a 50 foot, concrete-reinforced wonder that is awe-inspiring. A tribute to all Native Americans, but more commonly associated with Chief Black Hawk, the statue was designed by sculptor Lorado Taft. You can enjoy many wonderful views of the Rock River from the park, but the best view of the statue is from IL Rt. 2.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Laurent House
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Laurent House in Rockford, Illinois is the only building ever designed by the famed architect for a person with a disability. Kenneth and Phyllis Laurent commissioned and lived in the home from 1952 until early 2012, when it was acquired by a private foundation and added to the National Register of Historic Places. This single-story Usonian home is both functional and beautiful, decades ahead of ADA accessibility requirements. The home features a solar hemicycle footprint, patio, fishpond, carport, and outdoor connectivity to the natural landscape. The modest home is built of Chicago Common Brick and Red Tidewater Cypress and much of the labor and materials were sourced locally from Rockford.

Victorian Village Opening Day and Main Street Market
As part of the Victorian Village opening weekend, the museum will play host to a new vintage market hosted by Rockford's own Urban Farmgirl. Featuring vendors from throughout the Midwest and across the country, it will be an open-air market showcasing vintage goods and one-of-a-kind artisan pieces. Guided tours of the Victorian Village as well as entrance to the Main Museum Center are also part of admission.
Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival
The 17th annual Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival promises a fun-filled weekend with plenty of food, games and entertainment for families to enjoy. In addition to the downtown activities, there's the annual Hub City Cruisers car show starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday in downtown Rochelle and on Sunday the parade starts at 3 p.m.
Rockford Half Marathon and 10K
This year's event features two events: the wildly popular 13.1-mile half marathon and a sibling 10K run. In addition to Rockford area runners, the event draws participants from more than 20 states. Located just an hour's drive northwest of Chicago and a half-hour south of Madison, WI, the course route is along Rockford's scenic Rock River. It's a relaxing, yet challenging, event with two great options for runners at every skill level.

DeKalb County Barn Tour
The DeKalb County Barn Tour is a self-guided driving tour of 5 DeKalb area barns, plus the Glidden Homestead historic site and barn, and the DAAHA gallery. Enjoy 6 different styles of barn architecture and various activities related to farming throughout your tour. Photography is encouraged. Carload tickets include a tour booklet and map. Admission is $20.00 per carload. List of sites: Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center – See the barn where Joseph Glidden first manufactured “The Winner” barbed wire, which earned Glidden the title “The Father of Barbed Wire”. The barn and home are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Association (DAAHA) – an air-conditioned gallery exhibiting photographs of local barns taken by the Sycamore Library Photography Club. Jeff Marshall – A large historic barn interior camouflaged with contemporary aluminum siding. Joseph Marshall – Centennial farm with barn built in 1913 Robert Faivre – Two early 20th century barns and two 21st century barns on the picturesque acreage of Camelot Christmas tree farm. Larson/Martz Family Farms – Quonset barn built in 1955 on a large feeder cattle farm. Josie Hopkins – Preserved barn built in 1839, today filled to the brim with merchandise of Josie’s Antiques
Veterans Memorial Hall
Dedicated in 1903 in ceremonies that included a speech by Teddy Roosevelt, Memorial Hall is a tribute to Rockford citizens who have served in the Armed Forces. Large wall plaques list names of fallen veterans, and cases in the main lobby, side rooms and the lower level display Armed Services artifacts including memories of the Civil War, the World Wars and Camp Grant. The renovated second floor auditorium is used by cultural groups for shows and presentations and is accessible via the elevator.

The AirFest 2014 Performer Lineup includes the USAF Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights, Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team (AirFest's first international performance), Team Aerostars, Team AeroDynamix, Mike Goulian, Paul Wood, John Klatt Airshows, Art Nalls Sea Harrier , Firebirds, and Dave Dacy Airshows. Since B.B. started recording in the late 1940s, he has released over 60 albums many of them considered blues classics, like 1965's definitive live blues album "Live At The Regal," and 1976's collaboration with Bobby "Blue" Bland, "Together For The First Time."
Phantom Regiment - 39th Annual Show of Shows
Experience the art of musical pageantry as the Show of Shows features some of the best drum and bugle corps in the world. This year's lineup is one of the largest in the Midwest. Along with Rockford's own Phantom Regiment, this year's lineup includes 2013 World Champion Carolina Crown along with our Midwest rivals Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers. For the last seventeen years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television. First on "Politically Incorrect" (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), and for the last eight years on HBO's "Real Time," Maher's combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him twenty-six Emmy nominations. Annual Black Family Reunion
For the past 20 years, the Rockford Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Inc. has sponsored the Black Family Reunion Celebration. Since its inception, thousands of individuals of every background have enjoyed this fun-filled and informative event. The event will bring individuals, consumers, corporations, communities, and government agencies together to focus on the traditions and strengths of the Black Family and, by extension, families of all ancestries. The Reunion is held at Ellis Elementary School.
