Romp in the Park - Maple Park Fun Fest 5K
Come Romp in the Park for the Maple Park Fest 5K race or a 2 mile walk. There are several age groups for the 5K with awards. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and all participants will receive a ribbon. There is an early registration discount, but registration will also be available the day of the race.
Kingston Kardboard Ragatta
Come watch as participations in the Kardboard Boat Regatta try and paddle their boats made out of cardboard down the Kishwaukee River. Trophies and prizes will be handed out for the Fleet-of-the-Fleet (fastest boat to complete the race), the fastest boat in the Head-to-Head race, the Titanic Award (most spectacular sinking), Pirates of Pizzazz (crew with the most spirit), Flamboyancy Award (most outrageously decorated boat), and Kishwaukee Ferry Award (most passengers in the boat). This is a fun family event. Come cheer on your favorite crew.

Lightwire Theater’s A Very Electric Christmas is coming back to the Egyptian Theatre. Follow the story of a young bird, named Max and his family, as they begin their journey south for the winter. When Max gets blown off course and ends up at the North Pole…his adventure begins! Dancing toy soldiers, caroling worms and performing poinsettias, light up the stage in Lightwire Theater’s A Very Electric Christmas. Jonamac Orchard Halloween Bash
Visit our Pumpkin Princess and catch a free hayride to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch! The kids will love our 10 acre corn maze, the Barn Yard Play Area, Apple Train, Apple Launcher, Petting Zoo, and Pony Rides. Enjoy live music on Sunday from noon to 4pm!
Jonamac Orchard Demolition Weekend
It’s Pumpkin Demolition Weekend at Jonamac Orchard! Bring your pumpkin back, or use one of ours to smash, blast, crush, and destroy it in one of our many pumpkin demolition machines! This is your last chance to enjoy our Haunted Corn Maze this season, as our last night will be Halloween Night (Saturday, October 31). Hope to see you there, if you dare!
Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert. The concerts will take place at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.
Jonamac Orchard Pumpkin PIckin’ Weekend
Come celebrate autumn during Pumpkin Pickin’ Weekend! Catch a free hayride to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, and check out our Pumpkin Cannon as it blasts Pumpkins into the air. Grab a bag of freshly popped Kettle Corn, and enjoy a crackling apple wood fire in our Campfire Sites! There will be live music on Sunday from Noon to 4pm.

The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. KSO presents its Fall Concert, Voilà Viola on Saturday, October 10th at 7:30 pm. The concert will be at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, and there will be a free pre-concert lecture in the hall. Eagle Watching with Ranger
Join refuge rangers from Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge for a morning of eagle watching. Visit multiple areas at the wildlife refuge that are known for eagles. A personal vehicle will be needed. Attendees are reminded to dress for the weather. Open to all ages. Space is limited, call 618-883-2524 to register in advance. This program will be on December 5th & 19th, January 2nd & 16th, February 6th & 20th, and March 5th & 19th at 9 am to 10 am each day.
Eagle Watching Open House
Visit Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge to learn about bald eagles and how to watch for them, then venture out to watch for eagles with a refuge ranger. Experienced eagle watchers will be set up with viewing scopes at various locations at the wildlife refuge. Kids crafts will be available at the visitor center. Come visit our annual Antique Farm Equipment show featuring working equipment from decades ago! Catch a free hayride to the pick-your-own Pumpkin Patch, and check out our Pumpkin Patch as we blast pumpkins into the air. Pony Rides will be available Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for Columbus Day! Maple Park Fun Fest
Maple Park Fun Fest is a classic small town festival geared for big time entertainment. Occurring over Labor Day Weekend, Fun Fest has provided the perfect way to celebrate summer’s end for over 10 years. Jonamac Orchard Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday Weekend
This weekend at Jonamac Orchard, we are celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday with a fun filled weekend of Apple Picking! The apple harvest is in full swing with apple picking open on several varieties. Pony rides will be available all weekend, and on Sunday enjoy live music from noon to 4pm.
Stagecoach Players Theater
The Stage Coach Players is a one of the oldest, continuously operating community theatre troupes in Northern Illinois. In 2001/2002, the troupe moved to it's new permanent location in the former Moose Lodge on 5th Street and Grove in east downtown DeKalb, Since that first night on the farm, several generations of residents have been inspired by the Stage Coach Players...on both sides of the footlights.
Northern Illinois University Huskie Stadium
The 2015 football season will mark the 50th Anniversary of Northern Illinois University's Huskie Stadium, the on-campus facility that has been the site of 163 wins by the NIU football team over the last 50 seasons, four MAC Championship teams and many of the greatest players in school history. Dedicated on November 6, 1965 with a 48-6 NIU win over Illinois State on Homecoming, the stadium was named Huskie Stadium in 1974 as part of NIU's 75th Anniversary celebration. On August 28, 2003, the facility was rededicated as Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium in honor of the late Dr. Robert J. Brigham, an institutional icon who carried the school's colors for more than 50 years as a student-athlete, assistant coach, head coach, director of athletics, and special assistant to the president before his retirement in June 2001. The facility has also been the site of NIU field hockey and soccer matches, high school football games, including the 2013 & 2015 Illinois High School Association Football Championships, drum corps competitions, community events and even weddings.

Also this weekend, catch a Hayride to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, and check out our Pumpkin Cannon as it blasts pumpkins across our firing range. Pony Rides will be available on Saturday and Sunday, and there will be live music on Sunday as well from noon to 4pm.

Balloons Over Mt. Vernon & Fly-In
The event will host over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky” taking flight October 16, 17, and 18, 2015 at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. There will be a balloon glow, tether balloon offering paid rides, war birds, VIP seating, sponsor booths, family activities, vendors, crafters, inflatables and much more family fun.
Celebrating 11 years: this annual chicken wing cook-off is not to be missed. Featuring live music all day and through the night with local musician. Free inflatables, fun, games and contests for kids.
Winter Lights Aurora
The Merriest And Cheeriest Of Seasons Starts With Winter Lights! As the City of Aurora’s official kick-off to the holiday season, this family oriented event will be filled with merry making moments and a sleigh full of free fun for the entire family! The event starts with the Holiday Parade ushering in the jolly old elf himself, Santa along with Mrs. Claus. It’s followed by a grand fireworks display along the banks of the Fox River. The twinkling lit streets will be filled with a tree lighting, live music, costumed characters, ice sculpting, local art, food vendors, festive photo-ops, live reindeer a trackless train and more. The Come and make Winter Lights, a memory filled family tradition!

When music reigned supreme in the 1950s and 1960s, the Beach Boys secured their place in pop culture.
