The third annual Day of Celebration of all the diverse cultures in Rockford includes a parade of colors and customs with dancing dragons, bagpipes, ethnic dance troupes, music and more. The festival features international foods, a beer garden, performances, information, genealogy, a children's activity area, and much more. The festival begins at noon, the parade begins at 1:00pm.
Chairs on Parade is an event where Carlinville businesses purchases a chair and decorates it to their liking. The event is all about bringing old fashioned fun, family and shopping together while supporting the local business community. The chairs will be on display outside of the businesses beginning on Saturday, August 6th. Part of the event includes the first ever Carlinville Restaurant Week from Monday, August 22nd through Sunday, August 28th, celebrating local food establishments and retail stores. The highlight of that week will occur on Friday, August 26th with a flotilla parade and afterwards an auction for chairs that are donated back to Shop Local First. The profit from the chairs will go to the local food bank. The night will also include Mid-West Largest Squirt Gun fight, and a street party with Captain Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters rock band.
The 2016 Hometown Days Festival is a family oriented event that provides entertainment the entire family can enjoy! We are excited to bring back again this year the past favorites such as the Pride and Joy Car Show, the Baby Contest, carnival, and live musical performances. Parade features floats, marching bands, and Santa. Dusk falls and tens of thousands of lights light up the decorations at Veteran’s Park downtown Galva. The Great Highwood Pumpkin Fest will boast fan favorites including all you can carve pumpkins, Trick or Treating, costume contests, Pumpkin Parade, hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo, carnival rides, kids crafts, two stages jam packed with solid entertainment, food and beverage vendors galore and a Superhero 5K Pumpkin Run/Walk. As always, all lit jack-o-lanterns will be placed on pumpkin walls throughout the Festival grounds, with ceremonial wall lightings Friday and Saturday nights, and the grand lighting on Sunday evening.
