Dicken's Holiday Village
Olde England comes alive in Historic Downtown Antioch with lifelike figures representing scenes from the Dickens Era. The Dickens Holiday Village is back and the handcrafted Dickens characters made by our volunteer artists will bring a Public Art Program that is free for everyone to enjoy! Antioch will proudly displayed 45 Dickens characters for people to tour. Each character has a plaque describing the scene and also serves as an educational tool for students. Take a self-guided tour with one of our Dickens Walking Brochure Maps or reserve a tour guide for groups of 24 or more. Plus there is plenty of Dickens Fun for everyone in November and December. You may enjoy Dickens Teas, an Antioch "Oliver" dog afternoon, Dress like Dickens event, and much more.
Lehnertz Avenue Christmas Display
This drive-through is where neighborhood residents display a part of the original Christmas story includes lights, sound and all the biblical characters: wise men, camels, shepherds, sheep and manger scene. Peanuts characters with Charlie Brown follow on Lehnertz Circle. All lighted and all free! (Lehnertz is recognized as the oldest, totally free traditional Christmas display in Illinois.) Crib Blessing scheduled 6:00 pm Sunday, Dec. 13. Enter Lehnertz Avenue via Sheridan Street, follow through Lehnertz Circle and exit via Ohio Street.
Home Garden & Business Expo
Annual Home Garden & Business Expo featuring over 40 exhibitors and 2 full days of "How To" demonstrations. Breakfast and lunch available, hourly door prizes, blood screenings on site and register for the "Grand Prize!"
Christmas Around the World & Holiday of Lights
As is tradition, the museum's 45-foot Grand Tree takes center stage in the Rotunda decked out in 30,000 lights. It takes on a different theme each year so expect giant gears to be part of the decor to match the special MSI exhibit, Robot Revolution. Surrounding it will be more than 50 smaller trees beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago communities to represent their various cultures and holiday traditions. The occasional falling of "snow" adds to the fun.
Chicago Flower & Garden Show
The Chicago Flower & Garden Show brings springtime to winter with its 20 lush gardens, beautiful and fragrant flowers, trees and other plants allowing “newbie” gardeners and experts alike to experience the latest the industry has to offer. Memory is an exhibition of portraits that reflect less the "sitter's" likeness than their psychological state. Works include paintings, colored pencil drawings, prints and pastels by Judith Roth, Ellen Holtzblatt, John Smolko and Joseph Taylor.

NIU School of Art and Design Faculty Biennial invitational exhibition
The 2015 – 2016 Faculty Biennial exhibition features new work and current research of faculty from all divisions of the NIU School of Art and Design. Every two years the biennial emphasizes the caliber of the faculty and the breadth and strength of the arts programs offered at NIU from various disciplines including fibers, time arts, visual communication and illustration, painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, metals and jewelry, and art history, and art education.
Live Bald Eagle at TreeHouse Wildlife Center

Wonderland in Lights
Each year, the City of Effingham and the Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) turn Community Park into a winter wonderland! Wonderland in Lights, a drive-thru light display, features a variety of lighted holiday scenes including reindeer flying, Santa coming down the chimney, and a Nativity scene. In addition, to help get you in the Christmas spirit, the Effingham CVB, along with 97.9 XFM and KJ Country 102.3, continue to bring you the option to tune into continuous Christmas music on 90.7 FM while you drive through the display. The display opens November 26, and runs until Christmas night, December 25. Hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Community Park is located on East Temple Ave, Effingham, IL. Santa visits the Wonderland in Lights every Saturday to bring special presents to the children. Visitors Center Holiday Gift Expo
Freeport/Stephenson County Visitors Center, 4596 US Highway 20 East, Freeport. 8 am to 7 pm. Shop for unique local products during this special expo at the Freeport/Stephenson County Visitors Center. Over a hundred local vendors with products ranging from Pretzel items to books to cards to rugs to mugs to more are featured. The gifts are either produced in Stephenson County or highlight some aspect of local culture and history. Open: 8 am - 7 pm seven days a week.
Wonderland Express at Chicago Botanic Garden

Inside the Regenstein Center, a 10,000-square-foot exhibition of miniature trains winds over bridges, under trestles, past waterfalls, and through more than 80 mini-replicas of Chicago's favorite landmarks. Paul Busse, designer of the Model Railroad Garden, created this amazing exhibition exclusively for the Garden's holiday celebration.

The Orchid Show
Its the best eye candy ever! The Regenstein Center Greenhouses and Galleries are transformed by trees draped in orange and yellow Dendrobium, a hanging hedge of pink and purple Beallara, and vibrant Vanda in orange, red, yellow, and even blue. See more than 10,000 orchids in all. Bring a camera.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources staff will offer an informative presentation about bald eagles, the fish they eat, the native fish, the wildlife and the history of the Grafton area. The program will include a short video presentation. Spotting scopes will be available before, between and after programs to provide live eagle viewing. In addition, a live eagle will be on display from Noon to 3 p.m. from the World Bird Sanctuary. Photos can be take for a small donation.
