Christmas Around the World & Holidays of Light
Christmas Around the World began in 1942 as a United Nations Day salute to American allies during the war, is now in its 69th year. The exhibit features more than 60 dazzling trees and displays that are decorated by members of Chicago's ethnic communities to reflect holiday customs from around the world. Holidays of Light showcases various global holidays that celebrate light or enlightenment such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali. Festivities include ethnic dancing and singing, storytellers, and school choir performances.
Chinatown Summer Fair
This iconic annual celebration is one of the most ethnically unique outdoor events in the Midwest. Attracting tens of thousands from throughout the region, Chinatown Summer Fair is a true celebration of Far East beauty and culture including food, art and music. Visitors will be amazed by the Lion Dance Procession as well as classical Chinese dance and martial arts demonstrations. There's also Old and New World music acts, kids' activities, artisans, authentic cuisine from neighborhood restaurants and much more.
Cache River Nature Festival
Enjoy the area’s rich bird life and wetland habitat. A 12-minute orientation film gives a wonderful overview and introduction of the watershed, explaining the unique bio-diversity of the flora and fauna that can be experienced here. Visitors can also acquaint themselves with the area by exploring an interactive diorama of a bald cypress-water tupelo swamp, area state champion tree information and changing landscape displays. Activities include guided field trips, canoe tours, live bird demonstrations and various exhibits from 8am to 4pm.
The Nutcracker at the Egyptian Theater
The Beth Fowler Dance Company will present its Annual production of "The Nutcracker". Many area families have made this magical production a part of their holiday tradition every year. With the beautiful dancing, costumes and stage sets, this favorite holiday classic will tell a story that will make everyone feel like a child at Christmas.

This event is always the last weekend in January. It features food, arts, crafts & entertainment from around the world, presented by Knox College students and visiting performers. Knox College is a top Liberal Arts College in Galesburg, Illinois.
Makanda Spring Fest
Artists from the surrounding area will have on display their finest works for viewing and purchase. Live music is scheduled to take place at the Makanda Pavilion and in the Rainmaker’s Garden, with bluegrass, jazz, blues and various other music by local bands for the duration of the two–day event. Great River Eagle Days
To celebrate the return of our National bird, the great Bald Eagle, the Standing Bear Council, the US Army Corp of Engineers and the Quincy Area CVB host Great River Eagle Days at the Oakley Lindsay Center and Lock & Dam 21 for viewing. The public is invited to the free activities at the civic center, Black Fox Singers, Native American dancers, vendors, food, live raptors and an eagle watch.
Rockford Art Museum Exhibit - Through the Ages: 100 Years of RAM
From its beginnings as the Rockford Sketch Club in 1887, to official organization as the Rockford Art Association in 1913, RAM boasts a rich history that reflects the past, present and future of the Rockford region. On view for an unprecedented length of time throughout all three galleries of the museum, Through the Ages celebrates the centennial of Rockford Art Museum with paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, glass, sculpture and mixed media from the RAM Permanent Collection. Also on view in this commemorative exhibition are rare displays of historic archives that tell the impressive story about the making and sustaining of this community gem.

Artifact Talk: Rescue and Renewal
Grace Cohen Grossman, Curator Emerita, Skirball Museum, Los Angeles, details the history of the JCR & its task at the end of World War II to identify looted, "heirless" Jewish ceremonial objects and books, and to reclaim them for the Jewish people. Over sixty objects were placed in the care of the HTC. On loan to the Museum, these treasured artifacts will now be on display in the Feis Family Lobby.
