The Jefferson County Historical Society will host a tour of the 5th District Appellate Court House

As part of the Jefferson County and Mt. Vernon Bicentennial Celebration, the Appellate Court House will be open to the community for tours. Constructed in 1857 as the southern division of the Illinois State Supreme Court, Abraham Lincoln successfully argued a famous tax case in 1859. In 1888, Clara Barton used the building as a hospital. This is a great opportunity to visit this historic beauty which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is known for its Greek Revival Architecture.
