You are invited to attend the morning worship service at the First Presbyterian Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 12. Here you will find a continuous congregation similar to the people with whom Abe Lincoln worshiped when he served in the Illinois House of Representatives.

The people Lincoln knew, had formed this church and dedicated it on July 5, 1828. The people and the original building are gone now but the spirit lives on. Artifacts of the old church may still be visited.

You may also view and ring the first protestant church bell in Illinois. A department store owner, Mr. R. Riggs, in Philadelphia heard about “the poor little church out in Illinois “ that had no bell. The Rigg’s recently had a baby daughter they named Illinois. The bell was sent in honor of the baby and is known today as The Rigg’s Bell.

We hope to see you at church.
