Take a step back in time to discover the unwritten story of the humans that occupied the region surrounding the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers for more than 10,000 years.

The Center for American Archeology museum, housed within the historic Kamp Store building, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While the majority of its award-winning exhibits focus on the fascinating prehistory of the lower Illinois River Valley, the Museum also features exhibits about the historical period in Illinois and the history of the Kamp Store itself.

The Museum Gift Shop features a unique assortment of gifts for people of all ages, including CAA logo apparel and merchandise, art by local artists, postcards, nostalgic toys, Trisha Waldron jewelry, CAA Publications and so much more.

The Museum is located on the east side of Route 100 (the Great River Road), which is the main road through Kampsville. We're across the street from St. Anselm Catholic Church. the brightly painted Kamp Store, with its large false front and maroon awning, is uniquely recognizable as you drive through town. We welcome you and your whole family to take a step back in time to experience such history of the Illinois River.
