Some of the oldest Illinois villages and towns are located in Lake County like Barrington, Waukegan, Libertyville, Highland Park and Long Grove. Many notable and pivotal individuals in American history resided in the area as well as some of the eldest structures in the state reside in the county. The longest standing bar and restaurant in the Land of Lincoln is in Long Grove called Village Tavern. The tavern that opened its doors in 1847 still entices suds aficionados and food fanatics to this day. Long Grove Historic Village is a spectacular, eclectic shopping destination that is both classic and contemporary featuring fine dining, wine, & great specialty foods. Hidden among the trees and countryside landscape and connected by cobblestone paths are unique shops, galleries and restaurants housed in historic structures.  Open year-round, the village is home to many special events, family festivals and cultural attractions.
