Illinois Lincoln Highway Interpretive Mural - Fulton

Information

The Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition has produced 35 Interpretive Murals along this National Scenic Byway and its corridor in northern Illinois. These depict the history, heritage and events of the highway and impact on American travel.

Fulton’s mural brings to life some of the first motorists crossing the Mississippi River atop the tall Fulton-Lyons Bridge, at the western terminus of the Illinois Lincoln Highway. Not only was this crossing quick by automobile but it also provided a spectacular view where visitors often stopped to take the perfect photo. Extreme care was taken to insure the accuracy for this mural. So much so, that the artist purchased dress patterns from the time period to paint the proper clothing on the woman and child.
