With colorful costumes, lively choreography, and impeccable vocal performances, it has delighted audiences and contributed to the enduring popularity of Gilbert & Sullivan’s works.
The Mikado is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most famous and frequently performed operettas. Premiering in 1885, it remains a classic of the genre. Set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu, this is a satirical comedy that pokes fun at British society and politics of the time, disguised within the exotic setting of Japan. The story revolves around the wandering minstrel Nanki-Poo, his love for the maiden Yum-Yum, the bumbling executioner Ko-Ko, and the whims of the titular Mikado.
