The Ellwood House Museum features a grand historic mansion on 10-acres of parkland. Guided tours of the mansion will be offered throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, August 25, the Visitor Center exhibits will be open from 9 am to 5 pm, with mansion tours beginning on the hour from 10 am to 4 pm. On Sunday, August 26, the Visitor Center exhibits will be open from 11 am to 4 pm, with mansion tours beginning on the hour from noon to 3. There is no admission fee for the Visitor Center. Mansion tours are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for youth.

The Ellwood House features a palatial 1879 mansion and 10-acres of beautiful grounds. The mansion is open for public tours, and the grounds are used throughout the year for programs and events. The Visitor Center is a converted and expanded 1912 garage, adding 6,000 square feet of educational and exhibit space.

Another favorite structure is the “Little House.” Originally a contractor’s model and parade float, built in 1891, it was soon acquired as a playhouse for the Ellwood grandchildren.

Although the Ellwood family no longer lives in the area, and the grounds have been reduced in size, the magnificent Ellwood House is a vibrant center of the community.

The Ellwoods continued to live in the mansion until 1964 when they donated it to the DeKalb Park District. The Ellwood House Association operates the house and grounds as a museum to thousands of visitors a year.
