Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad Steam Train Rides

All aboard as a 36-ton 1912 Heisler steam locomotive pulls three cabooses, including an antique red caboose reported to be the oldest in the state, and three passenger flatcars for a four-mile ride through farmlands and across a bridge 30 feet above Yellow Creek. Shelby County 4H & Jr. Fair

One of only a few fairs that still highlight their 4H and Juniors. The fair includes dog care and obedience, judging in livestock, poultry, rabbits, lambs, produce, flowers, plants, and many other subjects. The Silent Language

The Silent Language, a U.S. premiere, by Serbian playwright Miodrag Stanisavljevic, translated by Zoran Paunovic, is a highly musical and darkly comedic fairy tale. Written in the 1981, The Silent Language is an adaptation of an old Serbian folk tale originally called Nemusti Jezik. It follows the journey of a young village servant named Poor Gasho as he gains the ability to understand the “the silent language.” As defined in this story, it is the language that only animals can speak and understand. On a larger scale, the script also speaks to the things we see and hear in everyday life, but fail to recognize due to our inabilities to listen and focus on details.

Geneva's Christmas Walk & House Tour

On Friday evening, Santa Lucia arrives by horse-drawn carriage and Santa arrives to open his Gingerbread House. Enjoy carolers, the Great Tree lighting, roasted chestnuts, Swedish cookies, and old-fashioned candy cane pull, and holiday shopping. On Friday & Saturday, five distinctive homes festively decorated for the holidays by local decorators open their doors to visitors for self-guided tours.

Patterson Country Opry Show

Head out to the Patterson Community Club on the first Friday of every month (except holidays) for a toe tapping good time for the whole family! The Opry has been a hometown country music show since 1989. Admission is $6 per person. Food is served at 6pm with a concession stand open until after intermission. The country music show begins at 7:30pm. The show features a different guest entertainer each month with the house band.

Take some time this winter to visit White Oak Vineyards, Inc. for Weihnachten (Christmas) at the Vineyard event! The vineyard currently features Seyval Blanc, Frontenac, Foch, Traminette, Cayuga White, Steuben, Chardonel, St. Croix, Marquette and Johannisberg Riesling grapes on eight acres. A log home on the property has been remodeled into the winery and tasting room with a comfortable, warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for gatherings with family and friends. The wrap around porch offers lovely views of the vineyards, new pond and surrounding countryside.

The Evergreen Cemetery Discovery Walk brings history to life through costumed actors assuming the intriguing characters of McLean County’s ancestors in the beautiful grounds of Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. This event is a collaboration between the McLean County Museum of History, Illinois Voices Theatre and Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Don't miss the Bald Eagle Days Environmental Fair and Wildlife Art Show at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island, Illinois. The show is heralded as the largest event in the Midwest dedicated to the United States' national symbol of freedom. The three-day event includes live eagle, hawk, owl and vulture flying demonstrations along with educational programs by the World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis, Missouri. Some of the finest gardens in the Freeport area are opened for touring. The gardeners generously present their creative efforts for the pleasure of the public. Walk through the gardens and enjoy the colorful scenery. Plus a silent auction and a large variety of garden art items will be offered at one garden. Gardeners will be on site to answer questions and to talk about plants and their gardens. Master Gardeners will also be available to advise on garden questions. Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad and Silvercreek Museum Ice Cream Social

All aboard the antique steam train as a 35 ton 1912 Heisler steam locomotive pulls three cabooses, including an antique red caboose, and two passenger flatcars for a four mile ride through farmlands and across a bridge 30 feet above Yellow Creek. Puschase your ticket at the Silver Creek Depot, and browse for novelties in the Freight House. Visit the Silver Creek Museum which offers 25 rooms of early Americana, Henney Motor Company vehicles, which were manufactured in Freeport, and the operating Cooper-Corliss engine, a giant 130 ton steam engine. Enjoy an ice cream social serving sandwiches, chips, pie, cake and ice cream.
