Annawan Fun Days
It’s all about the kids! Festivities are held at Howe’s Park and feature kid friendly activities like an obstacle course, pedal tractor pull, water fights, and the Twinkie train! Evenings offer a movie, food, nightly entertainment, and fireworks – first of the season in Henry County! After the Sunday parade, have a slice of pie or buy one to take home from the annual auction.
Atkinson Heritage Day
Our heritage is for everyone! A celebration of small town life featuring a fun filled family event that brings us all back in time for a moment to understand our heritage, enjoy the company of others and an opportunity to meet new friends. Activities include 5K/1K mile race, softball and Rolle Bolle Tournaments, children’s games, evening music entertainment. Join in on the meat & soup cook-off featuring, “Hutsepot” a (Belgian Dish). Craft and Food Vendors featured throughout the park and enjoy the Duck Derby at the Village Fountain. Activities begin at 8 am.
Hooppole Fun Days
Every kid walks away a winner in this pre-fourth of July celebration. Family floats, antique tractors, children’s games: ring toss, select a sucker and a frog/toad jumping contest (bring your own) are just a few to mention. Visit and enjoy local organizations home cooked delicacies and buy a pie. Fireworks at dusk are sure to please. Activities begin at 10 am.
Annawan Canal Ambush Mini Tri-Atholon and 5K
Experience the stunning Hennepin Canal on a beautiful autumn day. Run on the multi-purpose trail, bike along Patriot Way and paddle down the Hennepin canal to victory! Single and duo entries are encouraged. Location is Hennepin Canal Bridge, Rte. 78 ~ North of Annawan, IL
Gardenstock Art & Music Festival
Get ready to rock your heart out with the 7th annual Gardenstock Art and Music Festival benefiting the Sinnissippi Center’s Gardening Program. Bring a chair and cooler or sample scrumptious offerings from local drink and food vendors. Make yourself at home while you listen to bands ranging from folk, to bluegrass, and rock. Wander the art festival grounds and check out the best in local creativity. A nominal donation at the gate gets you in for the day.
Amboy Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary Tour - Mastodons to the Present
The Illinois Audubon Society is sponsoring a day at the Amboy Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary on May 23rd which will cover Botany of today, megafauna of the past and a look into Amboy’s future. Tour runs from 8:30am-2pm; cost is $10 & includes snacks and water and optional lunch can be purchased for $6. We will explore the botany of the sanctuary, a seep area and several focal points of ongoing restoration with William Handel, botanist and plant ecologist, SIU. Dr. Daniel Gebo, a anthropologist/primatologist will conduct a journey into this area’s past when mastodons and stag moose roamed Amboy Marsh. Amboy Wildlife Marsh Wildlife Santuary Tour - Diverse Habitats
Join the Illinois Audubon Society to enjoy a day at Amboy Wildlife Marsh & Sanctuary. Cost is $10 which includes snacks & water and an optional lunch can be purchased for $6. Learn about the unique habitats that make this sanctuary an absolute jewel which includes wetlands, black oak savannas, sedge meadows and dry sand prairies. Trip will include hiking and plenty of species identification in the field. Purchase lunch or bring your own. Go to website for more information and registration form.
