Taste of Champaign-Urbana

Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival

Friday Night LIve
Downtown Champaign is the backdrop for Friday Night Live, a free street-side performance series open to the general public. Held from 6-8pm every Friday from May 31st to August 16th, Friday Night Live includes an eclectic mix of music and street performances including bluegrass, jazz, folk, rock, and blues, along with a cappella, bellydancing, and street magic.

Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
What Lincoln Center is to New Yourk and Kennedy Center is to Washington D.C., Krannert Center is to the Midwest—a magnificent showcase for the performing arts. KCPA is a premier educational and professional performing arts complex and is the setting for over 300 performances each year. A professional laboratory for the University of Illinois dance, theatre, opera and music departments, the Center also hosts internationally famous artists such as Emmy Lou Harris, Herbie Hancock, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Mark Morris Dance Group, and is home to the Champaign-Urbana Symphony and Sinfonia de Camera.

Bloomington Gold Corvette Show
Bloomington Gold is not only the longest running national Corvette event, but also is noted for innovations that have been commonly copied by many other automotive events. Corvette auctions, swap meets, certification, SURVIVOR®, educational seminars and special museum-type displays all began at Bloomington Gold. Over 4,000 Corvettes will descend on Champaign County for the first time and over 1,00 0 are expected to take part in the Gold Tour, showcasing the open roads.

Champaign-Urbana Folk & Roots Festival
The fifth annual Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival will be held throughout downtown Urbana on November 1st and 2nd, 2013. This all-volunteer-run, grassroots festival will present over 80 free and low-cost all-ages/abilities participatory activities and high-quality folk performances running continuously in businesses, cultural institutions and arts centers. The festival will include dances, instructional sessions, jams, song-circles, storytelling and hands-on workshops. The festival delights in presenting unique and cutting-edge forms of folk art and music, especially those that break down the barrier between audience and performer and increase the accessibility of that form. At the same time, the festival also provides the occasion to preserve local traditions and histories through thoughtful collaborations with existing area folk arts organizations, cultural institutions, arts organizations and the University of Illinois.

This showcase for horse-drawn equipment also offers draft horse farming exploratory classes, a pony pull, field demonstrations, produce demonstrations, sheep herding, hay demonstration, breed presentation and an auction.

Arthur Amish Country Cheese Festival
This outdoor street festival features free cheese giveaways, wagon and pony rides, a petting zoo, kiddie tractor pull, cheese-eating and curling contests, free entertainment, a fireman's breakfast, ham and bean lunch, ice cream social, crafts, a flea market, car show and more. Win a national title at the National Cheese Eating Championships or a a World title in the International Cheese Curling Championships. Family and kid divisions for each event.

Bluegrass in the Gardens
Rockome Gardens hosts its annual bluegrass music event with some of the Midwest’s most talented bands. The 20-acre theme park is an ideal setting for great music, and also offers the Illinois Amish Interpretive Center, a cheese factory, candy shop, bakery, ice cream shop, snack shack, general store and beautiful flower gardens.

Mennonite Relief Sale
Amish-crafted furniture and quilts, baked goods, homemade ice-cream, crafts and children's auction are just part of the items for sale during this community effort. Kids can enjoy a train ride, space walk, bounce house and more. Enjoy a full menu including BBQ chicken, ice cream, and river fries. The auction items include a variety of locally handcrafted items including many quilts, bedroom suites, dining room tables and chairs, tea carts, china cabinets, entertainment centers, roll top desks, lawn furniture and many smaller wood items. This is a community effort of many churches and individuals to help bring agricultural assistance, community development and social services for the hungry and needy of the world.
