Each Cooper’s Hawk location is distinctive in layout and décor, but carries the same warmth and elegance that guests have come to expect.
Chicago Architecture Biennial
The inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial, titled The State of the Art of Architecture, will take stock of the extraordinary ways in which architects, artists, designers, planners, activists, and policy makers from around the world are tackling the most pressing issues of today. By shining a light on realized architectural projects, projects in formation, spatial experiments made visible, and public gatherings, the Biennial seeks to generate thinking about architecture and its implications for our times. It explores how creativity and imagination can radically transform lived experience as we negotiate urban, suburban, and rural contexts, as well as other places that have not yet been anticipated. Through a constellation of exhibitions, full-scale installations, and programs of events, the Biennial invites the public to engage with and think about architecture in new and unexpected ways, and to take part in a global discussion about the future of the built environment. Water Tower Gallery
A Biennial exhibition will be presented by the City Gallery, located in the Historic Water Tower, a familiar and treasured landmark located along the city’s famed Magnificent Mile. Constructed between 1867 and 1869, the tower was created for Chicago’s municipal water system, and originally housed a 135-foot iron standpipe used to regulate water pressure. It gained special significance as one of the few buildings to survive the destructive path of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The City Gallery regularly presents art and photography exhibitions.
Chicago Interiors explores extraordinary interior spaces in Chicago presented through notes, models, and material boards from designers responsible for them. As a city that famously rose from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire, Chicago literally rebuilt itself as an international center for commerce and trade, as well as a burgeoning cultural epicenter. Since the fire, Chicago has retained the old and intermingled it with the new. Like the buildings in this city, interiors have shifted with the times -- from the dust of commerce, slaughterhouses, and industry, buildings were reborn and repurposed time and again as both public and private spaces with new buildings abutting and intermingling with the old. Chicago Interiors showcases new and the re-envisioned.
Champaign Urbana Ballet presents The Nutcracker
It's the classic ballet - "Swirling among snowflakes that float from the evening sky, the sweet sounds of violins and flutes fill the air. It is Christmas Eve, and in every house, warm hearts beat in anticipation of the magic of the night. In one special house - the home of the Stahlbaum family - the music and the magic are about to take an unusual shape." That excerpt from Champaign Urbana Ballet's The Nutcracker sets the stage for what has become a glamorous, magical holiday tradition for local audiences. Our production is presented each December with a live orchestra, the famed CU Symphony Orchestra, in the elegant Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois. Local children are cast in roles as mice, soldiers and Polichenelles, while company dancers perform the Waltz of the Snowflakes and Flowers, variations of international delights, and the magnificent Pas de Deux that richly defines the Tchaikovsky score.
