In a new Halloween event called Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns, more than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins—some as large as 150 pounds—will light up the night at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Replacing HallowFest, Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns is the only event of its kind in the Chicago area. The LED-lit jack-o’-lanterns will be staged along a festive, paved pathway, starting at the Esplanade. One of a family of ten children growing up in the small city of Decatur, Illinois, Preston Jackson became a storyteller and an artist at an early age. In his artwork he intends to deliver information about who we are, where we came from, and where we are headed. His training is in the field of metal fabrication, both steel and foundry cast metals, as well as in painting. The materials used most often in his pieces are cast bronze, steel, and stainless steel. His work tends to be narrative in nature, with emphasis on relating the details and personalities of our past.
Country Lights Soy Candles started making candles as a hobby in 1999. At first, the candles were a soy/petroleum mix. After some experimenting, we were happy to go to a 100% soy candle. It did not take long for us to realize that soy candles were becoming very popular. Our "factory" is located on our family's Centennial Farm in north central Illinois.
