Events take place on the historic Mt Morris campus and will include: Round Bale Races with two person teams rolling 700# straw bales 75 feet in timed races on the street (smaller bales are made for younger racers); Blacksmith demonstrations; Square Dancing in the street with instruction for the inexperienced, and squares built for experienced and live music all day. In addition, the winners of the US National Straw Sculpting Competition will be announced in the evening.
The Straw Jam Stage is an informal live music venue in the shade, next to the straw sculptures.
The annual US National Straw Sculpting Competition showcases a variety of giant straw sculptures that are an exciting presentation of fine art in straw. The competition is judged for two awards, everyone who visits is eligible to vote for ‘Peoples Choice’ and all competing sculptors vote for ‘Artists Choice’
A Community Build starts August 9th and members of the greater community and competition visitors are invited to help us build a larger than life size Straw Sculpture that will be visible from Hwy 64 as it runs through Mt Morris.
