During the spring and autumn equinoxes, Chicagoans are treated to a unique spectacle downtown.

As the sun rises and sets along the east-west streets it's framed between the buildings on each side of the road. This usually occurs around March 21 and September 21 but these dates might differ slightly each year so be sure to check.

Where to View

One of the best spots to check out this occurrence is between the Kinzie and Madison streets. However, many downtown east-west streets will frame the rising or setting sun in a picturesque manner.
