Elgin will again be home to the Elgin Classic bike race on Friday, July 28 as part of the Intelligentsia Cup Chicago 10-day racing series, hosting cyclists from around the world.
The Elgin race is free and open to the public, and will again be run on a criterium-style course launched in 2021 to provide a more exciting and engaging spectator experience than the previous hybrid road racecourse.
A continuing component of this year’s race will be the distribution of free bicycles and helmets to under-resourced youth. The giveaway successfully refurbished and donated bikes to kids in both 2021 and 2022 to improve health, happiness, and opportunity.
In addition to the full day of racing, activities will include a bike safety clinic, a Family Fun Ride, and a neighborhood festival in beautiful historic Northeast Elgin on and around the former Advocate Sherman Center Street campus. This year’s family festival area will include food trucks and beer from series sponsor Fat Tire.
The Elgin Classic is hosted by the Northeast Neighborhood Association of Elgin (NENA) and takes advantage of one of Elgin’s historic districts for a beautiful day for racers and spectators alike.
