Fort Creve Coeur was the first public building erected by Europeans within the boundaries of the modern state of Illinois and the first fort built in the West by the French. The fort is a historical re-creation of the winter, 1680, quarters of the French explorer LaSalle, who went on from this site to explore the Mississippi River. There are interpretive events featured at the site a couple of times a year. This scenic 86-acre park offering a blend of outdoor recreation and historical exploration. Visitors can enjoy hiking and mountain biking trails with stunning views of the Illinois River and Peoria skyline, campgrounds, a playground, and a museum featuring a replica of the 1680 French fort built by explorer La Salle .
Amenities include a museum and gift shop, two pavilions, an RV park and campground, a kids' playground, hiking trails, and an herb garden.
